C Leo Carlsson (2023, 2nd, ANA)

I guess it's semantics but I assumed he meant from starting as an NHLer.

It should be noted that Kariya was putting up 100 points in the NCAA in his draft year.

Kariya was the best college player I've ever seen, period. It was like watching an Xwing fighter against a bunch of prop planes.

Kariya's rookie NHL year was excellent, but probably was more like Zegras as a rookie than Carlsson's thus far ... Eye catching bursts of talent as opposed to driving the play. He really exploded in year 2 though.

It's hard to judge Kariya's performance vs other more recent performances, just because the NCAA was so weak back then. I think Kariya's freshman year was right on par with Eichel's freshman season, when adjusting for the level of competition. But for me, Adam Fox's junior year in 2018-19 and Johnny Gaudreau's junior year in 2013-14 are probably the best college performances I can recall.

Kariya was one of my favorite players. So fun to watch. Wish he had kept his head up vs Stevens,

Scores a goal. I only saw the first period, he looked more sloppy than usual there. No idea if he might be doing some extra training now or is just gassed from the schedule.

He was our best player and looking fantastic to start the season, now seems to fall off a little. But not worries, knowing he has a seperate plan than the rest of the team. We saw how incredible he can be in the NHL so to me, it's just a matter of time for him.

He looks slower to me. Not sure if he is gassed or maybe hurt a little.

Still playing great for an 18 year old, just not blowing everyone away like at the start of the season.

Yea last few games he’s looked off, not terrible but nowhere near how he looked at the start

He went down during the Flyers game and it looked like he reinjured his hip that he hurt in training camp, but didn't miss a shift. He's been slower ever since then I think. Honestly I'm kind of surprised he's played both of the last 2 given that plus his load management, although I think he only played last night because Strome was out.

It seems weird to me that, given the entire load management situation, people believe the Ducks would dress him while injured.

Maybe he lied to the training staff so that he could get in some more games. A simple thing as saying "Guys, the hip feels manageable, I'll be fine." Would be believable right? He's a hockey player.

I thought he was great in the 3rd and OT last night, but did get off to a rough start. I am all for this game management if it saves his energy and makes him stronger.

That is entirely believable, but in that case I’m not taking the words of some fans over his and conclude he’s playing injured. His performances aren’t really pushing that conclusion that strongly.

He's 100% injured.

Despite that, he was excellent defending a breakaway, etremely smart player with lots of potential.
He actually had a pretty good night defensively. Just didn't have the footspeed to gain separation from defenders or the timing on his passes to support his line's offense. Wouldn't surprise me if he really was playing hurt which I hope isn't the case but it really does look like his speed has vanished.

It is weird but seems to be the case. According to our Swedish translators he said something about his hip still bothering him.

Are you referring to when he said "the same f***ing hip as last time and it hurt for some minute, but it went away quickly and there's no worries at all" after he collided with the crease?

I sure hope he's not gassed with his schedule of playing every other game. :hyper:

I think he's banged up a bit with a sore hip. I hope it's not one of those injuries that requires an offseason to heal or he's going to be playing with it for the rest of the season. :help:

In an interview he criticized himself saying that he’s been thinking too much out on the ice during these last three games.
