Did they draft him in round 1 to be a defensive winger? Or a C?

I thought it was obvious he is a scoring winger. So yes, if you ask him to play C in the NHL it won't go well. If you want him in a checking role on line 4 then it won't work either. No idea why Sabres would waste a first round pick on a defensive winger though.
And which scoring winger is he bumping as Buffalo has those in surplus? Last thing the Sabres need is another one dimensional winger when they already have Skinner, Peterka, and Olofsson. They have him in Rochester so he can work out the defensive side of the game, make him a more complete player

Skinner only has three years left and olofsson is probably gone in that timeframe

Buffalo is 23rd in GF this season and not going to playoffs. Your top scoring forward is Jeff Skinner with 40 points.

He's only scored 1 goal since coming back to the AHL from the U20's. Between that and the head shot, it's not like he was burning things up to get on the team. He has had some adversity to work through.

That's because the PP has been atrocious, 5v5 they're middle of the pack.

Let's look at simple facts, Kulich has been complete ass since the WJC. He isn't scoring, isn't helping the team and pretty much going through the motions, not exactly making a case to be brought up. The headshot didn't help but he was sucking before then

its not working though...

I misread. I thought you were implying you’d rather trade Byram than the package you quoted
The post was about Buffalo’s gap being a top pairing RHD. We now have that in Byram. Some people prefer to go straight into confrontational on these boards and it’s mind boggling.

The thing is, he hasn’t been scoring lately, but even if he were, there’s a bare minimum threshold on defense you need to hit to succeed in the NHL, and Kulich’s not there yet. We didn’t draft him to be Zemgus Girgensons, but we also didn’t draft him to be Victor Olofsson.
