So.. going to bump this thread, and request that all the Kakko talk be reserved for either his prospect thread, and/or the dumpster fire that is the Hughes vs. Kakko thread.

So, 6 points for Hughes in the exhibition match against Switzerland the other day. That's cool.

NHL Draft 2019: Jack Hughes went nuts with monster game in U.S. U18 exhibition win over Switzerland

Wish there were highlights, but can't wait to see how he does in this tournament and hope he plays in the world championship.

Gonna look great in a Devils jersey!

I think it's hilarious how people stop caring about the presumed 1OA as soon as the devils win the pick lmao
I think its more so he hasn't played in any meaningful games for about 2 weeks. I'm sure that will change Thursday when the U-18s start up for actual games.

It will start only if he plays bad and scores little. If he plays well and scores a lot, we will not hear a thing from anybody but Devils fans. And if we hear something it will be something like: "Yeah, but he plays against kids and NOT AGAINST REAL MEN!!!".

I’ll never forget PLD’s thread lol. This reminds me a lot of that because a lot of these posts will not age well at all. How many more USNTDP records does have to break for you guys to think he just might become an amazing player? It wouldn’t seem to be this way, but you can like both Kappo and Hughes and equally hope for their success.

this leads me to believe he over performed in the goal column last year and underperformed this year. fairly simple. i mean if he had ten more goals, all the stat watchers would look at his totals compared to this year vs last year and wouldn’t see a problem. not that there is a problem with what he’s done this year.

The reason why I'm not worried about his production is that he has torched older competition over the last year.

12 points in 7 games in U18s at 16

4 points in 4 WJC games with 13 mins of toi. 17 shots

17 points in 11 NCAA games this year

If he over performed last year, it was barely. Shooting over 20% on that team is not unusual. Caufield shot nearly 40% last year, and almost 25% this year. Turcotte shot nearly 30% this year. Both are better goal-scorers than Hughes, but anything under 15% is bad luck. At the very least, you'd expect near 20%. Zegras and Boldy were both between 15-20 percent this season.
