Man if I had a dollar for every time I heard this...

Remember the Elias Pettersson thread last year? That was fun.
What does Jack Hughes have to do with Elias Pettersson? Other than clueless HF posters making the weightless comparison between the two.

How do you guys compare Jack Hughes vs Lafreniere, knowing what we know at this moment?

Best to win #1 overall to draft jack but if canucks are close enough to #1oa, benning and aquilini will trade up at all cost to draft jack and market the crap out of hughes brothers come september. Only safe players are EP and quinn.

If canucks end up drafting in top 5/6, Jack hughes gonna be a canuck on draft day. Benning and aquilini gonna make sure both hughes will be playing for canucks come september.
Best to win #1 overall to draft him. But if canucks end up in #3-#6 post lottery draft, gonna be scary what package they will offer to grab jack. Only safe players will be EP and quinn.
Leafs fans said the same thing about getting Brayden Schenn. Don't get your hopes up. Also, the obsession with re-uniting brothers who generally have played together for a very limited amount of time in recent years is hilarious.

Canucks are not going to give up a boat load of assets just to get Jack Hughes.

What is wrong with people dissing Hughes? Do they get joy out of it or something?

The only reason I changed my name to what it is now is because it annoys me to see people diss Hughes on his page but you go to Kakkos page and if you say he has 1 flaw, people flip on you.

He is going number one. Will go number one. 10/10 scouts have him number one.

Deal with it.

Someone's insecure. Debate is good. You can make fair case for both.

No, it is pond hockey. I think its important to figure out how each players game will translate to the NHL. They scored 22 goals in a two game stretch last week. Thats not going to happen in the NHL. Hughes is the biggest beneficiary on the team of the pond hockey style because of his speed and skill.

Hughes creates the most scoring chances and has the best puck-possession just about every game I've seen him play of every team I've seen him play for. He's the best there is on this team at that, yet I don't think he's the best NHL prospect on this team. Being the best at junior hockey is not the same as being the best NHL prospect. I don't agree with concluding that Hughes plays the best of all the players at that style of hockey, and therefore we must conclude that he's the best NHL prospect. The NHL is a different game.

I'm no Hughes hater, but I've started moving him down my draft board, and thats only because I like what I've seen from other players. I now have him ranked 4th. I said at the beginning of the season that his position on my draft board would be dictated by what others do. Right now, I think I can project a lot more variety to what Turcotte, Cozens and Kakko will bring in the NHL than what Hughes will bring, and I don't think the offensive difference is big enough to give the edge to Hughes as a better player in the NHL. Thats only my opinion though, but I've been consistent about this, and I've never disliked Hughes, like some do. I think there's long been a problem with separating what he brings to a junior hockey game and what he will bring to an NHL game.

I'm curious. Why Cozen's ahead of Hughes?

Honestly, even if Cozens is a center and Hughes a winger, C>W isn't so significant you'd pick him over Hughes. I think the top 2's very clearly separated.

Hughes is receiving the classic case of being over scouted. Every part of his game is being picked apart. A lot more than every other prospect.

He is going either 1 or 2, most likely 1. And whatever team gets him will be extremely happy.

I’m so upset the thought police don’t like my opinion.

Hypothetically, for those that allow for debate on a hockey message board instead of rigid adherence to the accepted opinions around here, is prime Kane a more valuable hockey player than prime Staal?

I respect your opinion when it comes to the draft thats why I asked.

For me it just comes down to Cozens simply not being on the same level as Hughes.

For your question I'd probably take Kane as hes been a more productive player, but peak Staal might be a different story.

Either way, I dont see Cozens at a peak Staal level either for that matter.

That’s fair, and I wasn’t referring to you. Hughes might not turn into prime Kane either. I never said it’s not close, but when it’s close, I’ll take the player I think will stick at center.
