Are you going to sign Duchene, Panarin and Karlsson?

Gonna have to sign someone, sitting on a ton of cap space, one of those would be a dream. “Overpay” them similar to the Brian Campbell contract in Chicago which signaled their transition into contention.

The fact is Devils should be thinking playoffs for the next 5 years. The core is here (and Hall will leave if we suck). Devils really don’t need another top 5 pick especially if it signals to Hall that he should move on.

Hall will either sign an extension or be traded well before we know where the Devils will pick in 2020.

He will definitely play in the NHL next season. How good (or bad) he will be, THAT is the question.

Why do you want bad things to happen to him?

Even no-name British players are pushing him down very easily. The kid will be murdered by someone like Chara, Weber, Gudas, Cernak, Zadorov, Ovy, Wilson.... in NHL. His career will end before it even starts.

Considering Hall & Hughes skate & train together in the off-season, I’m guessing that extension matters on who the Devils grab at the draft.

Add in that Kakko might be taking minutes from Hall(though a good coach can work around that) you might have Shero thinking that 1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

There is something very childish about the way he plays. A lot of the stuff he does won’t work in the NHL. This tournament was perfect for his particular skill set with the big ice and he’s still struggling.

Still at least another 4 games left, and anyway against Canada it will be more interesting than France or Britain.

Jack Hughes - 0 points in 4 games despite his team scoring 22 goals
According to this thread and the Devs board - but he SHOULD have had 10 points so far if he wasn't unlucky

...realize how silly that sounds?

Still think Hughes will be great and this tourney doesn't mean much for him, but it's annoying reading "if XYZ would have done this Hughes would have points!" every single game. You could say that about almost any player....

I mean if you watch the games he has created a ton of scoring chances that have just missed. He hit the post today and got robbed by the UK goalie. He really has been snakebitten in the chances he has generated, just in the third period alone today he was a part of 3-4 high quality opportunities.

So what you did is you browsed the devils board and rushed to post this here to get likes?

Thought it was one of his better games. He's still getting limited ice time.

With same logic Kakko would have 3 points against USA and 10 points overall with better luck and team mates finishing wide open nets. I love Hughes but this defending his really weak play by these kind of comments are signs of being insecure. Trying to find every crumble of positive things in his play this tournament with a flashlight without looking entire picture. Hughes had multiple turnovers and his positive impact play precentage with the puck was around 60% against Great Britain. He still plays junior game mentally with same kind of frame. If this mean him being extremely raw i can see his really high potential and reason him be #1 ranked player.

He played great today, he covers so much ice on every shift. Had a couple of good sequences in the first and second period. Then had a few chances in the last 3 minutes

why is it annoying reading? if Hughes looked like a turd out there then people would rightfully say so, but he has been buzzing around all tourney long and just hasn't gotten the bounces.

Kakko is a guy that is less dependent on others, and I mean that in a good way - he can go to the net hard, work around the crease and create his own chances. Hughes does do a lot of that, but he is dependent on players being able to score on his dishes, and for the most part his linemates haven't done him any favors either. multiple posts hit by Hughes and his linemates - it is part of the game, but if you have been watching this tournament it is almost comical at this point the puck luck Hughes and Eichel have had so far.

Looked like a solid showing from what I saw.

By the way, new plan: Maybe we just don't engage with the Finnish trolls going forward and they'll go away.

why couldn't the same be said for Kakko? if that has been happening with him then things like that should be known. it gives people an idea who haven't been watching the actual games and just stat check that the reality is even a bit different than what the stats say. people can say Hughes should have 5-6 points by now without it impacting anything Kakko has done. and people following Kakko could say he should have 10 points right now if things were going his way, and I would appreciate reading that since I don't get to see all of his games. the complexes on here absolutely need to stop.
