Is Giordano a man?
His underlying numbers in the 4 games he has played with Gusev vs the 10 without him are hilarious

People are going to have to leave this forum because of this thread. Ive saidnit before and ill say it again. Since Crosby only Mcdavid was the consensus number 1 longer than Hughes was. That is a fact. At no point 3+ years heading up to the draft did any reputable scout not have Hughes at 1. He distroyed records and probably got a little bored in his predraft season. His skating, offensive I.Q and passing are absolutely elite right now. His shoot is already better than advertized.
To suggest that he wasnt ready for the NHL or that he simply hasnt been among the absolute best players on his team since game 4 on is boarding lunacy. If you truily believe such things you probably shouldnt be tying your own shoes. That may seem a little harsh but i feel anyone saying such things never actually watched him play and were just being... Its also not hyperbolic. Kid is gonna score 100pts in this league in the not to distint future and that was evident years ago.
Even on some shifts where Hughes isn’t doing anything of note, he suddenly just appears with the puck or is in the right spot. His offensive IQ is through the roof.

"meta" lol, it's funny because it's so true. Speed and skill kills. At least in the regular seasonKnew this all along from watching his Junior highlights, you could see that his speed, shiftyness and quick edgework would do him wonders in the NHL aswell, the argument that he wouldn't play well vs men was always ridicilous imo, because this aint the 80's anymore, this is what the modern NHL meta is, and Hughes fits in very well. I'm impressed even though i had no doubt in him ever.

I guess the question is really whether you can afford the speed and skill that you need to win the cup with and still have any depth. A bit heavier and more physical with a couple touches of speed and skill seems to be the right mix in the cap eraYou could always win a cup off of speed and skill. There isn't necessarily a better choice between speed and skill vs heavier and more physical. Whoever is better at their particular style will win
