I think my problem is I go to one extreme after seeing a large, large number of sabres fans going to the other extreme up playing Eichel. Stuff I read like "After his WHC and this combine, Edmonton really has to be thinking", "don't even think about it Edmonton!", or "I'll be disappointed if Edmonton takes Eichel, and we'll have to take McD"
The bolded part wasn't said by a Sabres fan.

The last two quotes are complete ********.

Once again, Sabres fans aren't "playing up" Jack Eichel. They are defending him from absolutely ******** posts.

This thread is all kinds of ridiculous. Here, let me try:

I actually worry that McDavid gets in trouble for all of those times he turned his OHL team's supply of Gatorade/Bio Steel into wine. I mean, it's totally possible that his team was drunk in the playoffs against Oshawa. Did anyone see Strome in that series?

My fear is that Katz goes Eichel in order to protect the Rexall franchise. Can't have McDavid running around Edmonton healing people left and right.

What are you talking about?

I think the "teammates didn't finish a couple chances" can be used for anybody

I didn't think the WHC mattered when Gaudreau lit it up last season, and I don't think it matters now. I don't consider the WJC to be part of the Eichel McD separation.

Eichel will be great, but come on. Be reasonable

So your problem is that some fans like Eichel more than McDavid?

That's the problem. Eichel and McDavid aren't that far apart according to many "experts". So if you prefer Eichels style of play, or whatever and suggest that you might prefer him, or that he will be better it's taken as sacrilege.

I would be slightly disappointed if Edmonton shocked everyone and took Eichel.... Obviously McDavid would be amazing as well.... And maybe it's because I've watched Eichel closely through this process, but I'd rather have him.

Especially when you got to see him play against men and in some cases superstars at WC.

Funny Eichel mentioned Toews as a guy he looks up to as a player in the Don Cherry prospect spot...that's actually who he reminds me of most, stylistically at least.

For me, the biggest thing that sets the two apart aside from stylistic differences is just the mental fortitude of McDavid. Guy just has this intense aura about him, when he talks he reminds me of a Mark Messier or a Jon Toews. You can just tell he wants it so bad.

I don't think Eichel has a poor attitude or maturity level or anything. In fact I'd say he is a guy I'd say is above average or even elite in that regard too... that being said Connor is just unbelievable... just on another level.

You know Eichel is a 5/5, but McDavid is a 6/5.

On the ice? I dunno. Hard to say really. Both are horses I'd bet on.

This kid may end up better than McDavid. He looks like a beast.

I wanted Mcdavid over Eichel, Sabres lost the draft lottery I was sad for 15 minutes and I got over it. Seen both players a ton, Mcdavid has improved so much from last year its crazy, and he was #1 last year. I think he has separated himself from Eichel in the eyes of scouts and my eyes. Eichel will be great, and I'm super happy, but lets be realistic Sabre fans Mcdavid will most likely be better than Eichel.

Mike Morealle of NHL.com said months ago before players destinations were determined that he'd rather have Jack Eichel than both the next two guys who would go 3-4 in the draft.

So yeah...he must not be in that fictional "marner is so close" group lol.

No player taken after another player has ever been better. That's just facts.

Jack is just going to destroy the Eastern Conference. I can't think of another player that has the same toolset as him there. The strength and size and speed. Maybe Malkin? If he plays next year I'm guessing he'll score 70 pts

Agreed. It would be like moving Getzlaf (perhaps a faster version) to the East. In a few years Eichel will be a regular among the top-10 in league scoring, much like Getzlaf is now.

Eichel shift video for USA WC game #1 vs. Finland. I'll be doing the other 9 games. There are a few errors in this one unfortunately because I made some cuts at non-key frames without thinking, but I'll avoid that in the next ones.

Hopefully this chip on his shoulder plays into his desire to be an even better NHL player and a winner at the pro level. In a weird way I am happy that it is playing out like this. I never expected this out of Eichel. I mean I knew he was confident in himself, but the way he has handled everything thrown at him has really shifted my opinion of him. He really seems tired of hearing about McDavid, and I think he wants to prove that he's the best player from this draft. It will definitely be difficult for sure, but if he can use this as fuel for a fire to push him to another level then I can't see how this couldn't be good for the Sabres.
