He's so fast. My god.

And I feel like I've heard of him having a shorthanded goal or opportunity in every pre-season game he's played thus far.

2 SHG in 3 games, both game winners. The first one was a "legit" gamewinner as it broke a tie in the 3rd period. This one was the first goal in the 1st period of a blowout. The Sabres, however, have a shorthand goal in each of their 5 games, though one was an empty netter.

I still hate that Buffalo lost two straight draft lotteries, but man oh man has watching Eichel made me feel better! He is absolutely not some consolation prize. He might not be quite as flashy as McDavid and might not score as many goals. But I bet he will real close...
I think Eichel will be the better clutch player though. I think he will be that Toews type of player who the team counts on to score the big/important goals. Eichel seems to thrive under pressure and nothing has rattled him yet. His teammates are already raving about the kid too.

I can't believe he is actually a Buffalo Sabre. We have been waiting forever for a player like this.
Kane and O'Reilly look real good so far too. I think the Sabres are going to surprise some people. I expect that Tim Murray will be up for GM of the year real soon, especially if he continues to make more big moves (which I expect he will if/when the opportunity arises). It's pretty amazing when you compare the Sabres roster from last year to the one this year... It'll take some time for everything to come together on the ice, but I think it's just a matter of time and I Rhink Bylsma is the right man for the job. I've been very impressed with him so far. He seems like a great teacher. I think it's going to work out well with this young roster.

It's fantastic that the Sabres got him, and I say that as a Red Wings fan. I didn't get the chance to see much of him in the lead up to the draft but what I am seeing at the moment exceeds all my expectations. Many have observed that Eichel may have a greater initial impact than McDavid in the NHL, and I can see why. He makes it look effortless, too. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Buffalo does this year and I agree they could surprise a few people. The contrast between this years roster and last years really is incredible.
Both he and McDavid are going to be great to watch over the coming years. What a treat for Sabres fans he's going to be :).

Don't get me wrong if we had the opportunity to draft McDavid, I would take him in a heartbeat, but I'm kind of glad we didn't have to choose between the two. Eichel is so much fun to watch, he's powerful and explosive but plays with finesse and the poise of a 5 year NHL vet at the age of 18. I can't wait to see this guy in his prime.

I'm jealous, and happy for the Sabres. Something's just magical about the way he plays. Seriously LOVE the way he plays.

And so the tale begins....of all those that have never watched Jack play the game of hockey.

Eichel's going to put up at least 65 points this year. He is ridiculously skilled and physically mature at 18

Eichel is a straight beast, he has some tools that McDavid will never posses, Mcdavid has some tools Eichel will never have. It's going to be an interesting battle. Can't wait to see what Buffalo/Edmonton does after the horrendous season last year. The calder race is going to be exciting.

That's what I keep thinking.

If he were a good ole Canadian boy who dominated Juniors instead of the NCAA, and was doing what he's doing now, the hype from the Canadian media would be non-stop.

I don't believe so, we've had our fair share of generational players, hell Eichel was selected after one. This is your first (If he is that)... so it's a little understandable that some people are over the moon.

He looks good, but not McDavid good, and that's why he doesn't get McDavid-level hype. That's all, nothing to do with nationalities.

Rather than continuing to talk about nationality and McDavid...

I'm curious what the general hockey community would like to see with Eichels line and PP unit. Here's how lines have been most of camp:
Kane-O'Reilly-Ennis
Moulson-Eichel-Girgensons
McGinn-Reinhart-Gionta
Deslauriers-Larsson/Legwand-Foligno
Other forwards with a shot: Cal O'Reilly, Evan Rodrigues

Defensemen available for PP: Ristolainen, Franson, Pysyk, Bogosian, Gorges, Weber, Colaiacavo

What would you like to see on opening night? Any weird combos you'd like to see tried in one of the remaining preseason games? I'm wanted to see Reinhart on Eichel's wing at least once. They got to play on the PP together last night, which should be the case in the regular season.

Not only that, but I think Jack gets the coverage and hype he deserves in Canada...and I don't feel it is incumbent on the Canadian media to go above and beyond what they are already doing to hype an American prospect playing in an American market. So, if anybody feels Jack is getting short changed on the hype meter, then perhaps the American media is at fault. Or maybe the marketing gurus in New York City should get to work.

What a strange comment. It's as if you're saying "I think Jack gets the coverage he deserves, but if he doesn't then the poster's claims which I'm arguing against are correct. Here's some goofy justification as to why, just in case".

Personally, I think he gets close to the attention he deserves. Everything else you said is nonsense, though.

I'd like to see a top 6 of:

Kane - O'Reilly - Girgensons (or the KORG line, for any musicians out there)
Moulson - Eichel - Ennis (the MEE line)

And then fiddle around with the bottom 6 as necessary to start the year. The KORG line would be a huge PITA to play against along with the ability to score, and the chemistry that Ennis and Eichel had together against Ottawa was drool-worthy-- I'd like to see that continue into the regular season.

I've got no requests for PP units; just whatever works.

Now, let's be clear, what you said is nonsense. All of it. Jack gets the attention he deserves in Canada, BUT if SOME believe he isn't, then fault should be placed somewhere else, and not "oh it's the Canadian media... and if Jack were Canadian" and that sort of silliness. but that is the typical HF nonsense I see here day in and day out.
