People rave about the Biggs pick, but are upset about Gauthier. The irony is wonderful.

The guy is going to be a Jiri Fischer, so stop looking at his offensive stats and just pay attention to his defensive zone and physicality.

Almost every single Toronto chat or scouting report said he wasn't drafted for his offensive skill (it just might be untapped, thats all) but they are pretty much looking for a lock for NHL in a bottom six capacity and anything better than that is a bonus.

Perhaps the most random, baseless prospect/player projection in the history of HF...take a bow

Not saying I am calling it quits on Freddy after 5 games, but 8 games in he is still looking for his first goal this season for Rimouski.

We know he can play defence, question always has been for him prior to the draft. Can he score at the NHL level.

I was betting you would have waited 5 more games before having something else to say. Could only wait 3 eh? One 3 point game in his 9th game, and his slow start doesn't look as slow anymore He could remain inconsistent from here on out, but when you only look at stats, one or two really good or bad games points wise can make a player seem a lot better or worse even if there on ice play hasn't changed.

Gauthier with 3 points today, broke out as expected against Shawinigan. Good for him, maybe this will kickstart a run for him.

We are tracking our prospects progress this year. We have done this for all our prospects especially our first rounders since I have been on HF boards.

I don't know why some get so up in arms when we post concern when a player is not producing, are we only suppose to post when they do well?

As you can see, I posted knowing they were playing a pretty weak team today, had a feeling he would score. He had no goals before today, posted. Had a 3 point game posted. I wish we weren't so defensive here where we could actually discuss how our prospects are doing. Good or bad.

I hate the Leafs but guys, don't worry about Gauthier. He is awesome. Stop looking at him as some 4th line defensive specialist. Offensively, he is awesome. His last midget AAA season line reads:

39 GP 26-25-51 playoffs: 13 GP 13-11-24

Add to that 60 pts in 62 games in the Q in his draft year (rookie season).

I'm not just looking at stats I saw him play. He's big, he's fast and speaking stricly of the offensive side, he has a great release and great offensive instinct, with his size he his effective in front of the net but can also make the soft passing plays around the crease.

Rimouski has been a mess to start up the year but they are regarded as a fav to win it all this season. He will pick it up trust me and will probably make team Canada WJC.

Gauthier is a major prospect.

That reminds me a lot of what was said about Colton Gilies when he was drafted. And look what Gilies has become since his draft. Not that Gauthier is like Gilies but I don't know if using a 1st round pick on a bottom 6 role player is such a good idea.

To be fair, Gauthier doubled Gillies in points.

I agree with everything u said, but I dont see him as fast. I think thats something he needs to work on with Barb Underhill. I see the shot u mention, the defensive game and those soft hands around the net, etc.

I watched last Rimouski Oceanic game and one thing that irked me was that he seems to glide quiet a bit instead of skate. He needs to hustle and skate a little but, however he is fairly young and can learn from Barbara Underhill and I hope he takes it very seriously. Another thing was he is a long sword warrior , his reach is long and with a one handed swing with his stick he can take away his opponent's space which is good and sometimes bad. He needs to be a bit more cautious about it. He can burst out at times but he doesn't do so often. By no means is he a flashy player but he has this knack of being at the right spots at the right time, in general I'm not worried about his offense. I'm more worried about his skating and how he can use his body tbh. He'll be fine IMO. Also getting 3 points isn't a huge thing for him as they were playing against Shawnigans who looked like AAA midget team....only two guys in that team impressed me Frederik Gaudreau and Storm Phaneuf...aside from that good lord that was sad. The oceanic team in general was good in spurts but they are still getting used to the team game it seemed, Gauthier should use this game as a way to get his confidence up in his goal scoring however he isn't a goal scorer as many are touting...he's more of a passer so be calm about this guy.
My view on Guathier from the last game.

For discussion, here is what one prominent scout wrote for Gauthier in his Final Ranking before the draft. Don't shoot the messenger folks.

Great start, needs to show he can keep up pace, phenomenal defensively, VERY limited offence, do you take a big checker in the 1st round?
