There's never an opportunity to make this team with Sullivan, man. They keep the bottom-6 stocked to the gills with dogshit journeymen year after year. Puljujarvi's outplayed everyone in the bottom-6 (and some in the top-6) by miles in the minimal opportunity he's been given and he can't land a constant spot in the lineup. /shrug

Though someone mentioned Puljujarvi might be getting a ton of rest time because of his recent hip surgeries so, I dunno. Maybe they're just taking it easy and he'll be getting a permanent spot next year. But that's firmly in the "believe it when I see it" folder.
That's true it would require Dubas to resist giving Mike Sullivan 100 Matt Nietos to play with

Yeah, he's pretty much a Minnesotan.

Anyway, back to Hallander. In my viewings of him in the AHL he was basically a mix of Hagelin/Hornqvist. Worse at their primary/defining skills, but had better hands.
That's what a writer said about him before he came over. I didn't see any hint of that when he got the couple of NHL games.

I wrote him off so I haven't been keeping up on him. Has his game changed in the SHL?

No idea why he would want to come over next season and watch Acciari and Hayes play from the press box lol…since we obviously aren’t firing this coach

From EP at the start of this month:

"Filip Hållander is probably SHL's best power forward at the moment. He skates with long powerful strides and can separate from opponents with his speed. He is inside-driven and physically strong too. His transitional game is mostly strong puck transports, but to get even more effective there he should add an effective passing game too. In the SHL, he can just skate and cover the puck through the neutral zone and create controlled entries, but on the smaller ice and on a higher level, that will be a much harder task to perform. Technically he has good puck control and a dangerous shot. He scored two goals in this game, one from a steal and shot from inside the circles and the other on a self-created breakaway. It was in 3-on-3 OT where he played the puck through the defenseman and skated past him while he was turning. When the defenseman was close to catching him, it was like Hållander just pushed a second gear in his skating and separated again. He then got hooked but kept battling to come loose from the defenseman and scored on a quick wrist shot. An NHL-caliber play. Hållander’s competitiveness and motor are very strong assets to his game and makes his average skills more effective then they otherwise should be. Pittsburgh still has the rights, and I can see them giving Hållander a one-way contract and a chance to stick in a third-line role for the team as they start building something new there."

Really liked him as a prospect. I thought maybe he could have been a really strong 3rd liner that brought jam and net front presence.

I had a soft spot for him because he reminded me a little bit of Koltsov. Not the skating but just how he was a hard worker. I like guys that go *right* to the front of the net. As a d-man it makes my job easier. If that puck gets through the first defender (the winger) it's pretty much a scoring chance.

Given the state of this team and the prospect pool, that is one of the sexiest scouting reports I've ever read.

Hopefully next year he can come over to the AHL and NHL again and keep that snarl. Hornqvist may have had a screw loose with his willing to drive the net and grind day in and day out so I'm not expecting that, but keeping a bit of that snarl would really elevate his chances at the NHL level.

This is something I really feel held Zohorna back. Yeah, he was a big body at 6'7 but he played like he was any other 5'11 guy. There comes a point when size only does so much for you if you're not willing to use it to your advantage. If Hallander can come over and show he's willing to get gritty while keeping his hands, then there most certainly would be a slot for him here.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume his game in the SHL translates 1:1 to the NHL. There's a number of very interesting line combinations you can make adding that skill set in. A couple that jumped out at me were: Bunting-Pono-Hallander. McGroarty-Pono-Hallander. Bunting-Lizotte-Hallander. Hallander and Pono could also switch.
