I'd pick him ahead of Draisaitl, but behind Ekblad.

He'd be fourth on my list behind Ekblad, Reinhart and Bennett.

I hope whoever drafts him is patient and gives him a few years to develop. If they dont he could bust, his body is obviously not physically mature and his foot speed has to get better. If Toronto is truly commited to the rebuild I think thats the perfect spot for him, they really need to bottom out for 2 to 3 years. Two more years of Jr for him getting bigger and stronger would be great for his development.

you haven't been paying attention if you think the Oilers are intentionally tanking

Oilers have played well down the stretch as opposed to the other supposed tanking teams, Ariz, Buff and Leafs. Other years they were plain lousy.

At the moment they would pick thrid so it's a choice between Strome and Hanifin.

Don't know much about any of these guys, other than Ekblad who is obviously tearing up the NHL as a teenager.

But from what I hear about Reinhart, I'm hard pressed to think Strome would go before him. 3rd overall maybe?

What are some good comparables for Strome? I watched his 4+2 game against Niagara and I couldn't help but think of Ryan Johansen. Tough to peg a guy when he is having a really fantastic game, and I haven't seen a ton of him, so I am curious as to what you folks think.

I also just realized Strome scored 90 more points this year than in his rookie season. That is just flat out ridiculous.

Edit: I hate to spam post but I really can't help myself when I read things like this

You have literally fabricated the entirety of point #2. Draisaitl is not playing on a 'shutdown' line - the Rockets just don't want to mess with the Goulbourne-Merkley-Chartier line for good reason. That leaves LD with one of Gage Quinney, Dube, or Kirkland, + Tyson Baillie. It's a 1a/b situation if I have ever seen one.

Source: Rockets season ticket holder. I'll be posting some updates from the first two games of the playoffs this fri/sat against Tri-City if you aren't convinced by that.

Thornton is a good comparison for Strome. Cerebral centre with excellent playmaking skills, but below average skating. Strome I think also has the potential to score more goals than Jumbo Joe because he has an amazing shot, but I doubt he ever hits those lofty assist totals put up by Thornton in his best days.

I want to see Strome dominate against top competition. Unlike the NHL, quality of competition in Junior is huge.

Its the difference between playing against Nurse or someone who will be a career AHLer. When McDavid left he basically put up Reinhardt's numbers. Even with that 6 point explosion. Next year if he produces at over 1.75 (Reinharts PPG) then I'd put him 2nd .Furthermore, his skating. Its truly bothersome. Sammy isn't exactly usain bolt but his actual skating is fine. He's just slow. Strome? Needs work on his fundamentals. Balance, fluidity, stride,etc.. He also needs to physically mature, which could also be said about Reinhart.

Should be an intriguing comparison to keep track of.

If you are taking into account the team picking first there is no way the Panthers take Strome at first overall. It would have been Ekblad or Sam Bennett being converted to a winger.

"I would have taken Draisaitl over him." - Kyle Woodlief, Red Line Report.

Draisaitl is criminally underrated on these boards. His vision is ridiculous and he has good strength (maybe not up to NHL standards yet) to help him buy time and make really good plays. Skating isn't as bad as people believe it is either. Both are really good prospects and I'd have trouble choosing one over the other despite Strome's ridiculous point totals.

2nd or 1st. He out paced Stamkos and Tavares in their draft years.

last year it was the Reinhart / Ekblad, it would have been the Strome or Ekblad draft.

1. Strome plays with McDavid, boosting PPG. Strome away from McDavid is still elite, but not 1.8 ppg
2. Draisaitl plays on a way more balanced Rocket team, playing the shutdown line with low OZ starts and against top opposition. His TOI is also around 20 mins, compared to 23+ for Strome. Points/ min are similar and when you take Strome away from McDavid they are probably the same

Draisaitl couldn't carry Strome''s jock strap to the rink. #hunchback

He probably goes 1st if were talking about predraft Ekblad. While Reinhart probably has a higher floor, Strome would look to have a much higher ceiling if all goes right.

Was gonna say this as i heard it live. Drai is pretty underrated on here but it's somewhat deserved based on his underwhelming performance, but he in no way should have remained up. People talk about how Reinhart is miles ahead of him, but the fact is they have similar styles of play. Both aren't the fastest guys, but think the game great and are great playmakers with similar upside. Drai's advantage would be that he is bigger and can use his body to protect the puck better, while Reinhart likely has a better 2-way game. I still think both play juniors again next year though, but will make a huge splash once they're ready.

It's all guessing and conjecture, but I'd assume with their gaudy point totals and insane skill level, Strome and Marner would be a candidate for 1st overall in most average draft years. This year is nuts, with McEichel, but also Hanifin who some outlets seem to think could be a worthy 1st overall in previous drafts.

Isn't redline report notorious for putting out weird rankings which build up controversy and gets them hits? In my opinion I value the lists by guys who use their large sources within the scouting world to create a list based on that over a guy such as Woodlief who makes a ranking list off what he sees. This is due to the fact most of these guys would have been picked up for high-end scouting positions if they were as good as they clam.

If it is the same draft order as last year, he most likely goes 3rd overall to Edmonton

Florida needed an elite defenseman (Ekblad) and the Sabres were very high on Sam Reinhart and actually had him rated higher than Ekblad
