I understand what you're saying. They have many similar qualities. If I were to re-phrase it I'd say he has similar assets to Eichel.

He's basically a better version of Draisaitl.

Yeah that's okay for sure. And I agree with your last.

I think he reminds me most of Ryan Johansen, obviously ahead of the curve production wise, but he really reminds me of Johansen in his draft year.

Someone earlier talked about not Rushing D. Strome and I couldn't agree more. Let them fill into their frames so they can learn to use their body which they'll def need in the pros.

NYI took their time with both Strome and Nelson and it's paying off wondrously.

Side note: I think it would be awesome if Strome is taken 3rd by Buffalo. Would give us a Strome and Reinhart each!

And the youngest Strome can go to Calgary in a couple years.

Thornton getting traded in 2005 had zero to do with him being "rushed".

Thornton is the only NHL player in history (to the best of my knowledge) to start the season with one team (Bruins) , finish it with another (Sharks) and win the scoring title.

I know this is probably a joking post, but I have serious doubts Matt Strome will ever be an impact player in the OHL, let alone get drafted in the NHL. Although I think his name will carry him a bit.

If his last name wasn't Strome I don't think he would even be getting talked about at all for the OHL draft.

Maybe I caught a game where he had a little extra zip on his step? Idk, but it seems limited veiwings may have hurt me here.

Well, I haven't seen him overly much either, so I could be talking out of my ass, but he's certainly not fleet of foot from my viewings (although I don't think his skating is as bad as Draisaitl's, which I honestly think will legitimately hinder his transition to the NHL) and I've heard that his skating is a weakness from many people.

That's why I made the Johansen comparison.

Johansen wasn't nearly as powerful in his draft year as he is now, so I think if you're looking at Johansen now, you won't much like the comp.

Once he started to fill out he became a quite physical, I see Strome following suit.

Gangly playmakers who see the ice well and get into great positions all over the ice.

If anyone is interested in how Strome produced during the 20 games McDavid has been gone (from injury and WJC), I counted.

20 GP, 29 points. The split is 10 PP points (4 goals, 6 assists) and 19 even strength points (10 goals, 9 assists). Interesting to note is that of his 15 assists only 3 of them are secondary.

It's a big step down from 2.28 PPG (which he had with McDavid) but 1.45 PPG is nothing to sneeze at.

Strome and the Otters are back on Sportsnet tonight vs Crouse and the Frontenacs. And that McDavid guy will be in action too...

I believe NHL Network in the United States will also have it.

Leafs are closing in on Strome territory. He'd be a GREAT prospect to add. He's projecting at ~117 points if he played 62 games.

For comparison's sake, here are the draft years of some other recent top 10 pick CHL forwards:
Seguin: 106 points in 63 games
Hall: 106 points in 57 games
RNH: 106 points in 69 games
Johansen: 69 points in 71 games
Duchene: 79 points in 57 games
Kadri: 78 points in 56 games

Even if you cough up Strome's point totals as being inflated due to McDavid, he'd still be looking really solid given that he's a 6'3 Centre.

Someone pointed out he was 1.45 PPG in games without McDavid this season, which would be a ~90 points over 62 games (chose 62 fairly arbitrarily, it seems to be around what most top prospects play).

Definitely one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft. I'm not too concerned about his skating, given that he has size. I think hockey skills + hockey IQ are the most important, and then having at least one of skating/size but not necessarily both.

At Strome's current pace, if he plays all 68 games he'd end up with around 130 points.

Yes, he has been boosted up by McDavid being on the team and getting not as much defense attention.

Without McDavid, Strome put up 29 points in 20 games, 1.45 PPG. In a full 68 this translates to 99 points. Still pretty impressive.

No way he slides past 4. Hoping Leafs can slide to 4th so they can grab him or Hanifin.

OKay, so I figure as Leaf fans we would want Stome over Marner? Because of his Size? I know with Nylander and Kadri in our pipeline we could use a large center as well to complement.

Could someone give me a breakdown between him and Marner?

Strome fits a position need more from a Leafs perspective. But the way some people talk about Marners game (heart and soul hard worker never quits wants to win etc while being highly skilled and dynamic) I think if both are on the board, that's who Shanny will go for (probably with Hunter whispering in his ear). Just seems like the kind of player you build a team around (while Strome on the other hand has had his intensity questioned)

Teams drafting that high will go with BPA. By the time the pick is ready to be a significant contributor the team may look very different. Get maximum value and if size is still an issue in the middle it can be dealt with through trades. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Nylander as a wing in the NHL.

From what I read, am I wrong in saying that Dylan Strome probably compares to Joe Thornton in playing style? Obviously needs to fill out.
