I am a bit surprised how well he has played recently, good for him.
Won't ignite any fireworks thou. - not yet anyways.

Has found some chemistry with Domi. - his skating looks somewhat better.

I still don't get the skating comments because his skating looked fine to me in pre-season and early in the season. It was all about his ability to play at NHL speed - I didn't think he made decisions quick enough. I have not watched any Yotes games since he's been called up so I don't know how well he's playing.

He's been playing really well since the call-up. He has 7pts in 8gp and is really playing well with Domi. He's doing okay on draws (45%) and has been a notable difference maker in the offensive zone. He's still adjusting to certain situations (specifically how to comport himself deep in his zone when the opposition has gained possession) but has been quite confident and really very effective overall.

This call-up, combined with is excellent AHL rookie season, gives us all reason to be hopeful. I'm excited to see what he can do in the AHL Playoffs (Tucson starts Friday night at home against Grand Rapids). Hopefully he continues to play well and build up his confidence even further. That could really help him have a strong camp next Fall.

As a yotes fan, I had my doubts on Strome but since his call-up I've been pleasantly surprised by his all-around play. He sure still has some more work to put in during the summer to truly be a top 6 forward in the NHL. However, I'm optimistic he can achieve that next season if he puts the effort during the summer and training camp. As much as I would like to get a #1 center finally, I'm now really comfortable starting next season with Stepan, Dvorak and Strome as our 3 first centers.

This guy knows his hockey. That is exactly what his issue was at the start of the season. Not his skating, but his ability to process the game quickly and react.

coyotes desperately need this guy to pan out as a top 6 center, hopefully a first line center

Vegas has proven you don't need a 1C to win - just three good lines with lots of talent. They can have that with Stepan/Strome/Dvorak. Depth = opportunity and talent=production. If they can have both, they will do well, especially with Raanta showing he is legit.

this guy as to much talent to not have success in the NHL
He's been playing really well. He added another goal last night, bringing him to 8pts in 9gp since his recall. He and Domi are really clicking. Unfortunately, the Coyotes depth is what it is and they're on a line with Zac Rinaldo (yes, really). Despite having a boat anchor playing RW, Domi has 10pts in those 9gp and Strome has 8pts. They've got chemistry and it's working.

Any reason Merkley didn't get a shot near the end of the season?

Is Dylan still eligible for the Calder next season?

I'm a little gray on the eligibility rules... I've always thought you were ineligible if you've played more than 25 games in the NHL total (21 games this season, 7 games last season) or 26 years old or older. After reading up on it, it seems like it's 25 in just a single season? And then there's a stipulation about 6 games in preceding seasons?

...

"To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league."

He's ineligible.

25 in a season, or 6 in any of the two preceeding. So even if he had only played 7 games this year, (for a total of 14), he'd be ineligible because he played 6 or more twice.

Kapanen played 9 and 8 the previous two years, so was ineligible this year.

Thanks for the clarification! I definitely didn't fully understand before, I actually thought Kapanen was a rookie this season.

So, he can definitely score in the American League. Do you think it's gonna translate?
