Exactly. He doesn't play the game like the players I have seen many comparing him. Thanks for finally agreeing with him.
And style-wise he indeed is more comparable to Crosby. But there is a reason why Crosby is the only franchise-center who can be as good as he is without controlling the pace of the game (and even he does it, but not as often as the two mentioned). Or are we know talking about Larking being comparable to not Toews/Kopitar but to Crosby?
For anyone watching the game on Sportsnet and those who didn't, Glenn Healy actually called him "Dylan McDavid"
For it's worth he also said Larkin was from Scarborough...
No one is talking down Nylander to talk up Larkin - in fact it's quite the opposite. Leafs fans continually invade other threads to minimize the success other prospects are having while trying to promote Nylander.
Tampa and Chicago both had players enter the league when those teams were non-competitive and they did fine. So did the LA Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
The reality is that Larkin is in the NHL right now because he has shown, so far, that his game is NHL-ready. Nylander is in the AHL right now because it was apparent watching him during pre-season that despite his potential his game still needs more improvement before he is ready to be an every day player. It isn't very surprising; most players are not ready for the NHL when they are 19 (including 3 of the players drafted ahead of Nylander; 4 if Virtanen is sent back).
This is hilarious. Please read these threads and you'd see it's exactly the opposite. Larkin is knocked at every opportunity by Leafs fans because he's not Nylander.
It isn't the opposite -- I'm not gonna pretend like Leaf fans are innocent, because their far from it. But reading the Nylander thread lots of Wing fans and neutral fans are quick to bring up Larkin and how he's so much superior to Nylander, especially recently. Like this whole thread if littered with posts about how Larkin is in the NHL and Nylander is in the AHL.... I'll settle with it's a little bit of both.
Tampa had guys like St. Louis, Lecavalier, Prospal, Kings had Viznovsky, Blake, Cammalleri, Pittsburgh, Lemieux, Palffy, LeClaire also doesn't hurt when you're Crosby, Kane, or a Toews... Are you really arguing that it's not easier for young players to come in and have success when they're insulated around good or great players? I thought this was common knowledge..
Larkin has shown he is NHL ready and im not disputing that, but it's definitely easier for a player like Larkin who is also a superior two way player to come in and have success playing with the likes of big Z, than Nylander who would be coming in and playing with guys like Bozak, Kadri, JVR, Boyes, PAP, while also having the 1000 ton pressure blanket of the Toronto Media hanging over him, plus the unrealistic expectations that would go along with it. Babcock knows our team is gonna be looking hard for offense this year, Nylander would probably be our best offensive weapon after JVR/Kadri. He and mgmt both thought it would be the best for Nylander to stay far away from this dumpster fire.
It goes both ways, Nylander is knocked because Larkin is in the NHL. Go to the Nylander thread and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Larkin was good today. It was one game, but you could see the potential there.

There isn't a rookie playing that can't use some improvements. Larkin had a good game playing on the 1st line as a winger against the worst team in the NHL, let's not get carried away. Especially because we all know he'd be in the A this year (and still may be), if Babcock was still in Detroit.
I like both players, and Larkin's looked great, but Nylander is NHL ready.
Here you go:Like others have mentioned I'd like to see him against some better teams (particularly heavy teams) to get a better judgement but he is looking realgud.
I cringed at the Dylan McDavid joke, I also found it funny how they were talking up the local boy angle and one of them said he was a Wings fan growing up when he was actually a leafs fan (haven't dug up the quote but he mentioned it pre-draft and was at the winter classic in a Leafs hat)
Here you go:
Who's we, exactly? Toronto fans who've had Babcock for 3 months? This claim keeps being made, completely unchecked.
Detroit fan here, watched Babcock coach the Wings for the last 10 years. 95% chance at least that Larkin is on the Leafs right now. The 5% chance he wouldn't be has nothing to do with Babcock. He is seriously Babcock's wet dream. He can be trusted defensively over good chunks of Toronto's roster already and clearly his offence is nothing to sneeze at. He is NHL ready and there's no doubt in my mind that Babcock would want to take control over his development on the TML. Many Wings fans here will agree with me on this.
He had a play where he got out-muscled and then took a dumb penalty, but other than that he looked solid tonight.
Wings would have lost tonight if not for Larkin. He single-handedly won this game against the Hurricanes. His assists and relentlessness to retrieve the puck was pure domination. He couldn't be contained.
+6 in two games
Let's not get carried away here, he was good tonight but not the best. It was Mrazek that was the best player for the Wings followed by Zetterberg, then it was probably Larkin.

I definitely agree with this - Larkin was good but Mrazek and Z were the true stars for us
Zetterberg was just doing what Zetterberg does best, but Larkin made things happen on both lines he played on.
