No about the same level. Remove Virtanen from that list as well.

Not watching your team tonight? He's looked perfectly comfortable on a top line role. As I'm typing this, the SN commentator just said Larkin looks like he's been in the league for 10 years.

Who knows how these players end up? But as of now, the best prospect is Larkin, by a country mile.

Nah.

Larkin Nylander and Ehlers are still pretty even.

Sorry, but tonight's game has changed that. At least for the time being.

People can yap about small sample sizes all they want, it's extremely rare for a teenager (two months removed from 18) to step in and not miss a step. He's playing on an NHL 1st line with Henrik Zetterberg and is not being sheltered at all.

Ekblad

Larkin

Everyone else

That's where we stand as of now for the 2014 draft, imo.

Pasternak I would put on the same level, he plays top 6 minutes and is lighting the lamp pretty regularly.

lol sheltered against what?

But I agree, he's looked amazing in his first game. It's actually incredible for a youngster to not only keep up, but look amazing playing on the 1st line. I would wait on making that judgement though on the 2014 list. When people complain about short-sample sizes, they usually mean 6-10 games as a really short-sample size. You're using a 1 game sample  . But if I were to make a list right now, it would look like yours right now too.

Came here to give props to Larkin.. wow he is a special player and I can't wait to see what kind of points he puts up this year... I always knew he could be a favorite for the Calder this year and seeing him play tonight makes me realize it could very well happen

Pasternak gets sheltered ridiculously. He was the most sheltered in terms of zone starts in the whole league last year.

Well, at least you said imo this time.

Imo, it's 1 game. Proclaiming anyone anything after 1 game is laughable.

It's Ekblad and the rest, still.

No, I just don't overreact to one game sample sizes. Will he be great? Sure I think so, but I don't see anything from Nylander or Ehlers that suggest they won't be great players either.

He's done great. Wouldn't personally put him on the same tier because points are one part of the equation. Larkin plays a vet's mature game, with the enthusiasm of a rookie. Calder dark horse, imo.

From a previous post of mine:

"People can yap about small sample sizes all they want, it's extremely rare for a teenager (two months removed from 18) to step in and not miss a step. He's playing on an NHL 1st line with Henrik Zetterberg and is not being sheltered at all."

Those are my thoughts on it. These are signs of things to come. Feel free to disagree, not the end of the world.

Take Nylander out as well as he's not even in the NHL yet. He still has a lot to work on.

Yeah and so does every rookie in the NHL this year, Larkin included. This is a marathon not a sprint. No disrespect to Larkin because i really do think he will be awesome, but it takes a larger sample size to separate from the pack.

Agreed. It's just pointless comparing a guy at this point playing in the AHL with those in the NHL. I also take issue with your comment about throwing out Virtanen as I see him as being at least equal to Nylander.
