C David Goyette - Sudbury Wolves, OHL (2022, 61st, SEA)

Goyette will go between 12 and 18 at the draft. The OHL is getting zero recognition this year but teams know its still the best Junior league. Goyette would be on everybody’s top 20 list for the draft if he played for London or Ottawa instead of Sudbury with the season he’s having.

If we can't get a decent defensemen, I want the Jets to draft this guy.

Yes, tournament eligibility in junior IIHF tournaments is by birth year. Since this year's tournament is for 2004 born and up players, Goyette is eligible.

How many games is that?

Goyette leads all rookies in the O and also leads his own team by 20 points . When’s the last time a rookie did this ? His old teammate with the Wild in Ottawa Cedrick Guindon is second 10 points behind. They were chosen mid first round in the OHL in 2020. The Toronto kids are always overhyped in Ontario. Ottawa is doing very well lately. Scouts should stop overselling the GTHL.

Claude Giroux and Derek Roy vibes east end of Ottawa especially gets under scouted. Someone was asking about the last time a rookie lead their team in scoring Roy did it by 13 points not 23 and is likely not as good a player as what Goyette turns out to be.

I am really curious to see where he comes in on Bob's final ranking. He didn't even make the top 80 on his January list, which I thought was shocking.

Goyette is looking more and more like a 1st rounder. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the 15 to 25 range with how much damage he's done lately.

Such as? Not that I am challenging your opinion, just curious to know who shouldn't be ahead of him.

He has looked like a 1st round talent to me as well but there are players ranked in that same late1st/early2nd neighborhood I haven't watched yet, so I'm not as confident of his potential as some of you seem to be.

Saturday can't come soon enough. Watching Goyette, Ohgren, Ostlund, Lekkerimaki, Bystedt, McGroarty, Nyman, Sapovaliv, Kulich, Lorenz, Howard and rest of those mid-1st-to-2nd-round guys in the same tournament should be a lot of fun.

He’s an interesting player. Not sure he breaks the top 10 but he’s a first rounder. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s taken 12th, 25th or 30th.

There’s a couple Cs we could see this with. Lambert would be another one obviously, and Geekie could drop out of the top 10 due to his development time probably being 4-5 year.

A lot of teams start getting sucked into that pre-draft stuff that his success has a lot to do with pure size. He’s probably a poor man’s Rasmussen who is quietly starting to become a good NHL player but like with most big Cs, it takes awhile.

I say he goes around 20-22.

As someone that lives in Ottawa there's no way I'd take Luneau or Warren over him.
