Wait so you're saying the Leafs HAVEN'T got McDavid yet? I don't believe you.
I'm not an expert or anything. But from my analysis, based on past results, odds, educated guesses and the opinions of well known hockey minds, it looks like McDavid has not in fact become a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs yet. I will look into it further as these are preliminary findings

Two of those are EN goals, take this out and he averaged 3.0 a game this series.

Sarnia's entire gameplan was to slow the rush, clog the middle, and they had a guy glued to McDavid at all times. They did a good job of slowing him down but ultimately he still had 9 points in 5 games.

London was not as good defensively and got beat up pretty bad by the speed and skill.

SSM vs. Erie is an interesting series, not sure Erie will make it last more than five games.

So excited to win the lottery and watch him dish the puck to JVR for the next 10 years.

I have no doubt the kid would be thrilled to go to his favourite team, but if his best winger for the next 10 years is JVR, I could see the excitement wearing off.

Stupid question, but is he possibly as good as Crosby or is he more in the mold behind, lets say Hall, Tavares?

He's on the same tier of prospects at the same age Crosby was. Hall and Tavares are below t hem. Tavares wasn't even the clear cut number 1 pick in his draft year (Many mocks had Hedman number 1). McDavid is the clear cut number 1 pick and he's more NHL ready than any draft pick since Crosby has been.

Tavares as a prospect was on the same level as Crosby.

No he wasn't.

If you say Tavares wasn't on the same tier as Crosby as a prospect then he would be in a tier a fingernail below him with McDavid.

Whatever tier McDavid is put in so should Tavares. People put McDavid in the Crosby tier and then Tavares should be too.

But either way, I think your memory might be failing you right now if you are forgetting how hyped Tavares was.

He was really hyped from a few years before his draft year, but his draft year was a step below McDavid's and Crosby's. There were lots of people that had Hedman and Duchene over him.

Compare that to this year where everybody has McDavid over Eichel, and Eichel is seen as a better prospect than Hedman and Duchene were.

I only managed to find one mock draft where Hedman was selected before Tavares on the first 2 pages of Google. The comments were are "no brainer pick", "isles can't mess this one up", "has been compared to Gretzky as a prospect".

The thing is Hedman had a ridiculous amount of hype pre-draft too. Tavares was still viewed as a Crosby-esque prospect at the time of the draft. I never found any argument that Duchene should be taken top 2 either.

Crosby was arguably the second-best player of all-time before the 20th birthday. He won the AR as a sophomore (only Gretzky has done that). He was CHL player of the year at 16 AND 17.

As prospects, Crosby is totally in the Gretzky/Lemieux tier. Its no insult to McDavid, but Crosby had arguably the greatest pre-draft junior career of all-time.

The hype was real, and he showed up before the high ankle sprain. I agree with the earlier post about how Tavares and McDavid are in the same tier in terms of prospect hype and ability. especially after JT's WJC performance.

Tavares was never viewed by anyone as a Crosby-esque prospect at the time of the draft. He was considered a potential Crosby-esque prospect during his 16-year-old season, but that faded as his junior career progressed. Where do you get the idea that he was that hyped during the draft itself?

If McDavid didn't get injured and scored 150-160 points idk if people would be so quick to dismiss McDavids junior career...

John Tavares did have the Crosby hype for a long-time. No it didnt last to draft day, but doesnt mean it wasnt there. Lets look at this:

1. The exceptional player rule was made FOR John Tavares. it is the John Tavares rule.
2. 45 goals as a 15 year old in the OHL.
3. CHL player of the year at age 16, ahead of Patrick Kane btw
4. WJC MVP, and star of one of the biggest Canadian junior hockey games ever
5. 3 straight 2 PPG seasons in the OHL. In fact in his 1st two seasons his PPG > Conor

The hype with JT was real. Just like this year, people who had never watched a game of hockey in their life were like.... "Could Tavares play for the Leafs"
