I haven't followed the player comparisons too much but it seems like he is a a faster more explosive version of Patrick Kane.

That's a pretty good comparison, I think. He's basically an XL version of Kane. Similar games, but McDavid is bigger, faster and quicker. The one difference in play style is probably that McDavid's game is more direct. He takes every inch of ice that gets him closer to the net. Kane stays around the perimeter a bit more.

so, basically, not the same at all?

Honestly, I'll maintain my mix of Datsyuk, Duchene, and Sid.

What are the "Sid" elements?

Just his demeanour, and ability to deal with this pressure?

I feel like Datsyuk/Duchene works because it doesn't ignore the size differences with Kane, but accurately describes his skill, patience and speed.

I do feel uncomfortable doing it, but I think it was broached earlier...The playmaking is just on another level for me, that I want to use the "G" word and say he looks a little like Wayne at times.

Sid's explosiveness, calm demeanor, leadership style, vision (but his vision may honestly be better than Sid's).

Reminds me a lot of Duchene except he's a smart player that knows how to use his skill and sees the ice much much better.

I see the latest roster update has McDavid at a 74 OVR. I think he'd be closer to 82-84 OVR...thoughts?

Sherry Bassin once said he'd get 70 points if he was in the nhl this season......clearly not a 74 ovr.:laugh:

That isolation video was great, especially with the low camera angle. He is so ridiculously agile at top speed and always finds the open man. I am so curious to see how he will do in the NHL next year, hopefully with some good linemates. It is also pretty apparent that his teammates are just not at his level.

Reminds me of a much better version of Datsyuk. The way he brings the puck into the zone on a 1 on 2 and end up with the puck in the net. Also how he almost impossibly keeps the puck on his stick and can release an amazing shot out of nowhere. Also he has strong defensive ability (Datsyuk often wins the Selke). But really, with a player like him, there is no comparison to a generational talent like McDavid. He will be 1000000 times better (obvious exaggeration) then Datsyuk. He will be a special player.

OHL scoring race:

Mitchell Marner - 124
Dylan Strome - 121
Connor McDavid - 118

Marner has 1 more game while Strome/McDavid have 2 more games.

Doubtful that McDavid can pass Marner, but Strome has a good chance. All depends on how Marner does tomorrow night. Either way, it's insane how far ahead McDavid is compared to everyone else in this draft. Guy missed nearly 1/3rd of the season and is still in the race for most points.

Dylan Strome officially takes the number 1 spot omg omg Mcdavid misses a crap load of games, helps fellow team mate win a scoring title? unreal. This kid is the next one.

He's faster and more agile than Crosby. Crosby relies on power and balance, McDavid relies on edge work and agility. Both have incredible vision.

I'm like the Duchene comparisons a lot. I've always liked Duchene's game and I definitely see a more explosive and dynamic Duchene in McDavid.

Kids going to be fantastic. Really hope the Leafs win the lottery.

Whats even more insane is that marner and strome, two guys considered "top 5" prospects are blowing the roof down.

PPG wise, only Tavares and Kane come close as draft eligibles. And of course both those guys are elite NHL talents.

Could a lot of that be due to having really good linemates though? Obviously they make their linemates better but I know Strome gets a lot of PP time with McDavid and Marner has the ability to play with Dvorak, and at times, Domi. If Tavares had that supporting cast I think it'd be possible that he could put up much better points but I don't really know who he played with in his draft year. Strome and Marner are still great prospects but I'm just speculating
