The fact that McDavid looks like an accountant probably plays into people's assumptions that he can't build up like a tank. He doesn't really *look* super athletic but there's no doubt his legs are enormous and he's strong as an ox. It's definitely not unrealistic to suggest he tops out at 6'2 and 200+. Let's not forget these guys are still in high school and are a few years from being men - regardless of how much we deify them. McDavid's old man is also significantly larger than him and that bodes well..

Lol, it's possible he grows another inch or two, but there's no way he'll be as big as Ovechkin. He's got a somewhat slim frame while Ovi is built like a tank. McDavid just won't be heavy for his height, he doesn't have Crosby's generational thighs or Ovi's generational beer belly.

I don't think you've ever been beside McDavid. I'm 6'0 and 170 and beside him I still feel small. And you have to see his dad. His dad is gigantic. Again, filling out in and around Ovechkin's size is still amazing. Doesn't have to be exact.

Amigo; he's only 17. Most and I mean MOST men stop growing in any spurts by 21. 2 inches is perfectly in the realm of possibilities. Even 6'2 is fine.

Average growth from age 17-20 for a male in the 75th percentile is roughly half an inch. The fantasy that these kids are all going to keep growing beyond their draft year is just something people use to make them feel better about their potential as pro players.

This a weird convo. McDavid already has good size. He doesn't need to get taller. He needs to put on 20 lbs over the next three years. He will. And at that point he will be bigger than Toews, so I think he'll be just fine.

Yeah, I have that feeling too. Hopefully it happens. We haven't drafted number one since Wendel Clark... It's been way too long and never have we drafted someone of McDavid's generational calibre.

You guys want to know what's even more scary about McDavid more than anything? His size. And you're going to be like, what? Take this in. He's 17. 6'1 (maybe 6 and a half but very close) about 180-185. That means this kid isn't even done growing. Let's say he caps off at 6'3 and anywhere between 200-210. That kind of size with Crosby like skill? That's ridiculous. It's like Crosby's skill set with Ovechkin's frame.

Maybe if his name was Anthony Davis, but it's very unlikely he grows much more.

Yep, you nailed it. "Player A is already so good, imagine when he grows 3 inches and hits the weight room, puts on 20 more pounds of muscle, he'll be unstoppable." Obviously an exaggeration on my part, but I've heard it a thousand times before. McDavid's size and strength are not issues as they were for guys like Turris and RNH, he won't end up much bigger than he is, and there's nothing wrong with that.

It does intrigue me that his dad is a "giant" though. Doubt he grows any more than an inch, but if his dad is a big guy, you never know

I don't think Toronto needs McDavid as bad as Arizona or even Carolina.

If you're implying this similarity to Crosby, he was hated initially because he would always dive and appeal to the refs as a young player. McDavid doesn't have that fieriness that got Crosby 100 PIMs in his rookie year.

So honestly the only reason I can see people hate McDavid are because of his media overexposure and superstardom that he is destined to reach, which comes with being the best (if not one of) in hockey.

Wrong. Arizona can get Matthews next year. The Canes though... well, not my problem. :D

I don't think McDavid has alot of motivation to go 100%. Alot of the Canadian players said it'll be hard to go from a sell-out, gold medal Canada vs Russia game to a OHL game with not a crazy atmosphere.

Well he's doing a good job tearing up the Attack right now. Whenever Bigras isn't on the ice the Otters are just running all over them.

You don't think he wants to prove he's the undisputed #1 pick? He always comes across as a very intrinsically motivated individual.

If competing to be drafted isn't enough to motivate a player, that's not a player you want leading your team. However, I very much doubt thats the case with McDavid.

Yeah he scored 2 pretty quick points in the 3rd but he could get so many more points every game.

I don't know if he has looked at Bob's rankings but scouts said 10/10 it's McDavid. I'm sure he knows that Eichel can challenge him but I think he'll start going even harder in March and when the playoffs come around he'll be going 110%.

Well I'm 6'0. His dad is like 6'4 or something around there. So he seemed like a giant to me lol.

If you think his dad is a "giant" and 6'4" then you made a mistake and were looking at someone else. I have chatted with Brian several times bumping into him at different locations in Newmarket over the years when Connor was coming up, and he is 6'1", 190-200 lbs. maximum.

As an aside, a very personable guy.

You can't go past 100%. And you could say the same about most any top prospect, like Jack Eichel.

What I'm saying is he is probably going 80-90% right now and he'll be playing as hard as he can and probably raise his game up close to the playoffs and in the playoffs.

Eichel still has to win the #1 spot which he probably won't do, McDavid played better than him at the World Juniors so if he thinks he can get the #1 spot well then he better have a really good season along with a good playoff run aswell IMO.

3 more points tonight. Has 83 in 33 games, which is 6th in the OHL despite playing approx. 20 games less than the guys ahead of him. Was just looking at his game by game stats and he has only been held pointless in 1 of his 33 games played this year.

I said before the season he might get atleast a point in all his games. I'm pretty close.

His size is fine. Average forward size is 6'1 203lbs with his skill and speed the worst thing he could do is bulk up and put on a bunch of weight. You want to be strong as possible without being to big. 195-200lbs is plenty enough and if I were him I wouldnt go to much beyond this size. Speed kills with that skill level

He's actually on pace to finish just behind Marner and Strome in points. I won't be at all suprised if he passes Strome. Not sure about Marner. Erie has 15 games remaining, London has 14.

97: 2.52/game x 48 games played = 121 pts

Strome: 1.83/game x 68 = 124 pts

Marner: 2.00/game x 63 = 126 pts

A teaser from this in depth profile on #CMc97:

"Difference maker – His ability and desire to make a difference every minute he’s on the ice. No place was this more apparent than in the BMO NHL/CHL Top Prospects Game where his dominant first shift left Team Cherry in tatters that they never recovered from.
Physical skills – His speed, agility, ability to change speeds and direction plus a low centre of gravity allow him to perform feats and make plays that most others can only dream about except for, maybe, Sidney Crosby.
Mental skills – His mental ability to process the game at super high speeds and the vision to use that information to make game changing moves that leaves defenses in awe."
