Mc David should have had 4 or 5 points tonight but again he has virtually no experience at the pro level and isnt used to the speed and skill of the defenders and goaltenders.

His defensive play is under rated . The guy broke up 3 good scoring chances by back checking.

I think he and Draisaitl should be a 4 on 4 pairing and PK pairing.

Uh yeah. He looks leagues ahead of RNH and Eberle. Pretty terrifying to see where he might be in two years.

well... lets not kid ourselves... hes looks a million times better then any current oiler... they weren't 3rd last for a reason.

anyways, he will be I believe one of the top players in the leauge next year. book it. kid is unreal. I hope he doesn't get injured. It will be unfortunate.

FIFY. And please calm it with the hyperbole, it completely discredits anything else you say.

cant wait till the vancouver games where we can actually watch the guy on the television with HD for christ sakes.

Yeah, and the web streams that Kevin Lowe is in charge of are just garbage. Either cutting out constantly, or we're getting the arena audio feed at 300% the volume of the commentators. Damn Kevin Lowe.

Anyhow, McDavid has played AHL-competition and while the hype is real - he has NOT been Oilers best forward in preseason and nowhere millions times better (LOL). I think Draisaitl and Lander have been the best performers then the top-line of Pouliot-RNH-Eberle.

Against bigger NHL defenders, I do think McJesus will struggle a bit. No doubt he will put up serious points but probably less than Hall/Ebs/RNH this season.

which games have you been watching?

McDavid has played 2 pre season games, and it's pretty unanimous that the Slepyshev-McDavid-Draisaitl line outperformed the Pou-RNH-Eberle line in the MIN game. 2 assists in the other one and was flying. I don't understand this comment at all.

Agreed. While Draisaitl has been good too, just one night earlier when playing with Hall he looked terrible.

The next day playing with McDavid he looks great again.

The McDavid line was hands down better than the RNH-Eberle line in that game.

McDavid has only played 2 pre-season games and he admitted to being nervous before the first one (still got 2 points) so the first game was a bit of a wash.

To think, people on here (Eichel fanboys?) got REALLY MAD a few months ago when I suggested McDavid would be the best center on the team right from game 1 and possibly even best player.

His ability to strip pucks from the opponents is pretty nuts. He's done it to a couple NHLers this pre-season.

So McDavid hasn't been playing great and has 4 points in 2 games? It's going to be scary when he gets more comfortable and plays to his potential.

I wouldnt be too worried about it. That friggin Eichel looks like he could challenge for the SCORING TITLE this year if he plays with Ennis. :amazed:

He's played pretty good. In Minny game he could have had easily 5 points or so.

It's gonna be a good race, but I could care less as long as Oilers as a team out play Buffalo in standings.

Can we officially mark this as the first "shot fired" between the future Sabres vs Oilers rivalry that will surely happen when the careers of McDavid vs Eichel really take off? Up to this point I don't think the fanbases really have been that hostile towards each other. It's usually just a McDavid vs Eichel debate without the rest of the team mentioned.

I dont think Buffalo vs Edmonton or McDavid vs Eichel will ever be much of rivarly. Different countries, different divsions. I actually like what Buffalo is doing alot and hope to see them make noise too. I also hope to see Eichel dominate the NHL like I think he can

Unless they see eachother in the cup finals, there wont be much hostility.

I really think this is going to be one of those 'rivalries' that we as fans want to happen, and the media will try to artificially create, but won't really exist due to them playing in different conferences.

For all the debates over the past year we've had on this site, it's kind of irrelevant until one team wins the Cup (or they meet each other in the Finals). I don't get the feeling that McDavid or Eichel particularly care, outside of maybe Eichel pushing himself a bit harder.

^mctopchowda beat me to it.

I don't count that as a hostile post. It's basically saying "I'd rather Edmonton be better than Buffalo than McDavid be better than Eichel". I'm sure everyone on both sides feels the same way; we care more about the team than a particular player doing well.

I probably should've put the sarcasm face in my post...

I would love to see an Edmonton- Buffalo 4 year Stanley Cup battle ala the NYI-Oilers 80s rivalry with McDavid and Eichel leading their teams. would be awesome for hockey. Both players look like it will be a very short adjustment to the NHL. As a Sabres fan I couldn't be happier with Eichel but I will be checking out the Oilers every chance I get. I still can't believe Matthews only missed the draft by a couple days. Three generational players in the same draft would have been phenomenal.
