He's an excellent prospect deserving of exceptional status but isn't a McDavid-level prospect. Not many in history are, so that's not an insult by any means, and nevertheless I'm sure Bedard is going to be a star for a very long time.

Agreed..nothing in the eye-test (granted in limited viewings) foreshadows the 1.7 ppg !!! that a 24 yrold McD is currently popping off at at the next level . And of course what seperates McD from every single star on the planet is the god -given skating speed the likes of which defenders have never seen....then throw in the elite IQ..puck skills..and fawgetaboutit :)
I dont see that generational speed in Bedard game just as we didnt see it in a 15 yrold Tavares who put up 1.18ppg to McDavids comparatively modest 1.06 in their respective ES seasons . Tavares was actually 9 months younger than McDavid in their ES seasons which skews even more to Tavares favour...and yet there is no comparaison between the two at the next level. But hey, good on CB for the quick start 6pts in 3 games (3pts on PP) -kid is out of the gate FAST and fun to watch ! Especially given the times we are currently living...

Before Bedard played in WHL, most of the people on the site said that Michkov was better while Bedard had hardly played.

This player is extremely talented. He has been known for 4 years.

For me, he's better than Shane Wright. I know it's easy to say it today but I've always thought of it.

I am one of the 28% who voted for Bedard against Michkov.

I’m going to say it.

There’s definite McDavid comparisons to be made. Point scoring aside. The kid’s skating and vision of the ice is already otherworldly. Is he going to “be the next McDavid”? Almost certainly not. But exceptional status McDavid was not better than what we are seeing of exceptional status Bedard. I assert that as a fact. In every offensive attribute, the most obvious difference between the two - shooting - leans massively in Bedard’s favour.

I can’t wait to watch him play in person.

I think McDavid was a better (definitely faster) skater and had better hands at top speed than Bedard has shown thus far, even at 15. Although his point totals were not otherworldly at 15 (above ppg is still ridiculous) McDavid was always seen to have an almost un-matchable ceiling with his skating and control at top speed.

Bedard's shot at 15 is the equivalent to McDavid's skating, but I don't think he has the skating ability McDavid had.

No one does. But Bedard’s still an extremely good skater who I think has a lot of room left for improvement, even just simply through physical growth.

I think the puck handling is a dead heat.

4 x 2 point games in a row,...in the WHL,...as a 15 year old.
For a team that won 21 games out of 63 last season and 30 out of 68, season before that.
who have won just once in 4 games this season....

Imagine if he played for the best team in the WHL, probably wouldve had 4 x 4 point games in a row....

That’s an NHL caliber shot right now. Wowza.

When fans are back allowed in the stands I’ll be checking him out live whenever I can in WHL action.
The way he pulls that closer to his body and snipes it is beautiful.

He will score lots of goals at the NHL level with a shot like that.

Has any player, like ever, in the WHL started his career like this????
This is getting ridiculous.

Bedard is first player ever granted exceptional status in the WHL to play as a 15 year old.

Savoie last year had this weird hybrid thing where his number of games was limited.

Bedard is the first one with unconditional exceptional status. The WHL is historically and currently the most physical of the major junior leagues in Canada. The WHL has long been a D man factory for decades upon decades for the NHL churning out solid two way D men with good size and well rounded games.

Bedard will be a Mcdavid tier prospect
Definitely could be, but still a lot of development to go before we get to that point. It would definitely be on a similar timeline as McDavid after Crosby. 10 Years separated McDavid and Crosby, and 8 years separates McDavid and Bedard.

I think Bedard's shot is going to give him a huge advantage this season over McDavid's 15 year old year because you can exploit the hell out of CHL goalies with anything resembling an elite shot, but I'm not sure he has the speed, agility, and hands as a total package that McDavid had at a young age. McDavid's shot developed a lot from being pretty poor at a young age to being pretty darn good now, so it's not a huge surprise why he didn't put up huge numbers at 15, but you could just see immediately at the U18's that year why he was so hyped. McDavid was also lucky to grow about 4 inches in junior which would definitely benefit Bedard if he's lucky enough to keep growing. I don't think McDavid would be the same player he is today if he was 5'9 or 5'10 instead of 6'1. He doesn't have a compact build so I think he'd have some areas he'd struggle in at a smaller size.

Bedard will be a Mcdavid tier prospect

Yeah, I feel he is the closest one up to this point.

Most tend to be a tier below but Bedard is ridiculously good for his age.

If he develops as expected, he will be the next McDavid-level prospect. The stuff he's capable of at 15 against older players is what generational prospects do.

At this rate Bedard will be considered the heavy consensus 1st overall candidate over michkov, especially if the contract michkov signed is honored. I said a while ago that I had michkov over Bedard simply because I had not seen Bedard playing at the next level while michkov was in the MHL, but if this start is any indication of what’s to come it’s clear that Bedard is at the very least on michkovs level if not better

Definitely more exciting a player than Shane Wright at this point. I'd like to see him at WJC u-18s or some such, would be easier to compare his performance to McDavid's.
