What is too easily forgotten about is he's doing this against kids and not NHLers! Shouldn't diminish what he's potentially capable of doing but right now Bedard is under challenged in the junior leagues and it shows!

Back when he was 12 or 13 he was skating with some NHLers at a Vancouver camp and they remarked he had an NHL level shot BACK then. Imagine 4 or 5 years of constant practising.

If anyone reads Malcolm Gladwell, this is a real life version of the 10,000 hours rule.

His shot isn’t going to get worse in the nhl lmfao

ahhh. no games on the sched for the Bedard show until Sunday and Tuesday to close out the month. That's disappointing.

The good news. 4 games next week. sweet heaven.

He’ll be at the CHL top prospect game tomorrow though

Never heard of the bolded, but it checks out in regards to my WoW play time since 2007

As for the topic, I hope Bedard gets drafted into the right situation and powerplay, would be good for the game and any franchise that drafts him if he cracks 100 which I think is absolutely possible although unlikely.

Ditto my friend!

It takes 10,000 hours of intensive practice to achieve mastery of complex skills and materials, like playing the violin or getting as good as Bill Gates at computer programming. That's essentially Gladwell's theory.

I don't entirely buy his theory because he disregards natural-born talent. I mean I would probably never be as good as Bedard if I practised as much as he did. However, all my hours spent makes me an elite HfBoarder. :sarcasm:

I can make him a few good Hawaiian burgers for him as a pre-game meal to make use of that pineapple.
Pineapple belongs on pizza, not steamed hams.

Also, who thought putting Regina in Saskatoon colours was a good idea?

Plus, Connor Bedard is pretty good at hockey - just to stay on topic.

He's the most talked about and well known prospect since Crosby, McDavid was actually relativity* "unknowns" to the general public in comparison, I mean everyone who followed the NHL or prospects knew who he was and just how great he was, but Bedard is entering that Crosby level where your mom who doesn't even follow hockey knows about him, mostly because of that wjc performance.

Crosby's hype and fame was on another level (he had the highest paying endorsement deal in all of hockey while in the Q) - but in terms of sheer fame and being known, Bedard is next to him
Are you sure that Crosby hyper fame is not the impact of the lockout season? Every hockey fans had to watch junior or europe hockey during the lockout of 2005. Why do you think Yakopov has so populare even today? The 2012 lock put lof of media on him.

It played a role for sure, but even at 16 Crosby was a national phenomenon, the media really took that Gretzky quote of him being able to break his records and ran with it, then the Lacrosse goal early in his 16 yo season, that really put him on the map even further since that move was extremely rare in those times. Don Cherry was complaining about it, which put his name even more in the spotlight. I think today there is a lot more exposure on a lot of players but back then if you had a clip go "viral" in a sense like that clip did, it was a massive deal. By seasons end, he was CHL POY which basically vaulted him to best prospect since Lindros without a second thought. He was the "golden child" of the NHL's future too, it was well known that hockey was getting a bit stale in terms of Gretzky having retired, Lemieux in his late 30s, Lindros was banged up and his time as being the league's marquee player was over, the NHL needed a "face" badly. All the media was saying "this guy is the next Gretzky, the next face of the sport" etc even when he was 16. With Crosby still being a superstar and McDavid in his prime, there is no pressure for Bedard to come in and carry the league or be the face of hockey, if he does that's great , but its not what people are banking on for the sake of the league like they did for Crosby.

Hell no... No pineapple to pizzas...

I answered the question three times.

I have no problem comparing Matthews production in the Swiss league to Bedard's. Matthews nearly led a very good men's league in goals despite missing 30% of the season. He was scoring goals at a 15% higher clip than anyone else.

I'm not at all convinced that Bedard's production in the WHL is more impressive. He's been terrific on the PP, but if you remove PP scoring he's actually behind Benson in scoring. Yeah, Benson has played 5 more games and has more talent to play with, but still. He also trails Stankoven in ES points per game.

He's not exactly lapping the field... Especially compared to Crosby and McDavid:

The closest non-teammate of Crosby was 0.74 ESP/GP behind him, Sid almost doubled him up
Marner was the only non-teammate of McDavid that was even over 1 ESP/GP, and he was still 0.54 away.

Meahwhile, Stankoven is ahead of Bedard and Benson / Cristall aren't too far behind.

You keep wanting to define Bedard as generational, but generational players don't need to rely on the PP to absolutely dominate junior leagues.

Bedard's relative dominance at ES, and reliance on the PP, is more similar to that of Kane:

@WhiskeyYerTheDevils

I liked what you brought to the Bedard discussion so much that ima gonna post it here.

You broke down what many others see outside of this board, Bedard is good but likely will end up not quite being a generational player.

There hadn't been a prospect on Crosby's level in junior since Lemieux, Lindros was the closest thing since 1984 and the sport was dying for offense.

Well, Gretzky and McDavid both aren't really natural athletes so I would say the practice is much more important than natural born talent.

I undestand that. But with the lock out and no NHL games. The media has on him 24h/7days. Let not forget the lockout draft lottery. It has a huge deal.
