C Connor Bedard - Regina Pats, WHL (2023 Draft) Part 4

Looking absolutely ridiculous tonight. I hope someone makes a clip of his entire shift that resulted in the 4-1 goal vs Tri-city
That was quite a shift! He looked more motivated last night and it carried over to today. He honestly probably should’ve had at least 6 points in that first period alone!

It’s funny how for the last couple of weeks numerous people already started questioning him because he wasn’t at 2.5 P/GP.

Bedard is far and away the best prospect in this draft and has no ceiling to what he could become in the NHL.
It was inevitably going to happen and will continue to happen as the season goes on. People get bored of how good he is try and imagine faults to make it seem like there is some kind of race for 1OA when in reality whatever team wins the lottery will be in a dead sprint to the podium to select Bedard.

Couldn't that largely be attributed to his teammates just not being very good?
Well I actually started to feel that way at the U20s. His shot is obviously amazing, but he’ll take his game to the next level when he utilizes teammates more effectively. I think he shoots a bit too much despite the obvious game changing skill he possesses

He leads the league in assists. Probably should have more points but he has teammates that haven't been able to finish some pretty high quality chances.

He has more than proven he has elite vision and playmaking ability. The comment is valid but should not be taken as a character trait until we see true selfishness at the NHL level.
I’m not calling him selfish at all. His thought process jsut seems to be “the best chance for us to win is for me to handle the puck and shoot it as many times as it takes”. While the points he has are undeniable, I don’t think it’ll be totally translatable to the NHL. The only thing I’d like him to do more is attempt more of a give and go type of game. That’s the only critique I would have for him. I’ve just been noticing a decent amount of turnovers recently from over-handling the puck.

That’s undeniable, for sure. It will be interesting to see how and how quickly he evolves in the NHL.

Does anyone here still watch TV? I was wondering how the media are reporting Bedard's 5pt night.

I couldn't find it on TSN at all. It was on SN's jr Hockey page. (but not on the main page)

I get all my news from online sources so I'm just curious how it's being reported.

His teammates are not very good, so that really is their best chance to win. A year of this won't hurt him, just the opposite it will give him an opportunity to perfect skill plays he'd not get to use otherwise.

Though McDavid had 42 points after 15 games.

Depends on your expectations for him, I guess.
Don’t think this needs to be explained.
Bedard isn’t a McDavid level talent - thats so incredibly rare. He’s more on a Matthews’ level.
McDavid‘s team also had a much better supporting cast than Bedard. Regina is 7-7 while Erie went 54-14 in his draft year - but again Bedard isn’t a McDavid level talent.

I agree with this but still maintain that Bedard is living up to expectations and is having an incredible draft year.

I also think that stat watching isn't as important as evaluating skillsets and Bedard has an elite NHL shot already and his other skills are pretty top notch as well.

I think 29 in 15 is amazing but much like last year he could've had more last year to start he was snakebitten it wouldn't surprise me if his play picks up even more in the second half watching him play he dominates the ice and has a bit of a mean streak his teammates are absolutely leaving points on the table

He also played with Dylan Strome and Alex Debrincat on a team that scored 331 goals. I don't think Bedard is as good as McDavid, but there is no denying he played with far superior talent than Bedard has thus far in his career.
Well of course, though he also is playing against inferior talent in WHL in comparison to OHL as well. OHL was very strong that year, so McDavid being able to stand out so far above everyone else was quite impressive.

Like I said, it depends on your expectations and whether you see Bedard as a good 1st overall candidate or a generational talent. For one the season's great so far, for the other not so much.
