Caufield scored something like 20 goals in his final 37 games of the season. As a rookie on a lottery team.

I think it's safe to assume that he's going to be a really good goal scorer.
22 in 38 as a 21 year old after a single goal before that and pouting his way down to the AHL.

He has a good shot no doubt but his name in this thread is kind of out of place as when he was the same age as Bedard he was "ripping it" up in high school in Wisconsin.

There is no comparison in terms of caliber of player, Bedard is pretty obviously the more talented player. I think they do have some stylistic tendencies in terms of their hist shot, shiftiness, and shot first mentality. I say he's a Caufield - McDavid hybrid because Bedard also brings some good puck carrying skills through the middle of the ice.

Fair enough but there is a reason I'm not of fan of player comparisons as they often don't really work and I'm sure that you would agree that scouting reports are better.

Full scouting reports are definitely better, but player comparisons are easier for lazy people like myself. I think hybridized comparisons can be a lot more useful than just 1-1 comps though.

I'm curious where Bedard's extreme focus on shooting comes from. Was that his parents influence or is it an obsession he has on his own. He seems to have taken training in that area beyond even what the average star player does.

He reminds me of a smaller, shiftier Stamkos. Elite shooting talent with underrated playmaking. Leaves a lot to be desired defensively (jury is still out on Bedard though). Bedard gets a big edge in stick handling.

Same age as Bedard he scored 44 goals in 40 games in the USDP program, and scored 72 goals in 64 games his draft year…

So basically you have no idea what you're talking about, cheers.

A bit of stat cherry-picking but interesting nonetheless, if you take Bédard’s last 7 games at the WJC for a d-1 (the length of a full tournament), he’s out scoring everyone not named Wayne Gretzky

Using draft years for a tournament based on birth year makes no sense, especially since Bedard is a July birthday, not a January 1 or something.

That is to say, he should be 3rd after Reichel.

Pretty excellent tournament by Bedard, considering he JUST turned 17.

Unfortunately that's now 2 tournaments for him ruined by horrendous coaching.

No idea why Cameron moved him to the third line, and then put him in the bumper for the PP. Bedard never plays that spot on the Pats.

I sensed a bit of frustration from Connor. Especially that celebration in the semi-final. He was also throwing hits which is very uncharacteristic of him.

Him playing front of the net was quite frankly absurd. You have a guy with a world class shot and you don't even let him get it off on the powerplay?

Cameron is a terrible coach lol. I expect Bedard to produce a bit more in December.

I question his physical tools a little bit versus other ultra hyped prospects like Crosby/McDavid, but neither had his shot. Reminds me more of Mackinnon.

How to succeed despite idiocy. If not for that crazy play by McTavish, we would be talking how he is a two-time choker.

Did James Duthie just call Cameron a good coach? LOL :laugh:

??? Jack Hughes is one the best skaters in the world and his shot is decent while Bedard is an above-average skater with an amazing shot.
I've only seen Bedard at this WJC... im not an expert on his game, ill admit. That said, from what I saw he reminded me of Hughes as a comparable... just my quick take

This is what I pretty much see as well. A very good player for his age especially, and he will most probably become an NHL star. But I don’t see a generational talent in him. His shot is very good for sure and his skating is pretty good, but not truly special. And when you are as small as he is, then you need to have pretty much exceptional skating to truly dominate at the NHL level. Definitely should become a very good NHL player, especially a good goalscorer. But generational? No.
