C Connor Bedard - Regina Pats, WHL (2023 Draft) Part 2

That’s hilarious. I’ve never seen coverage that completely committed - the defenseman is turned 180° from the puck.
Looks like Mcdavid against Kesler in the 2017 playoffs. Never seen anyone shadowed like that before. It did leave Draisaitl open to rack up points though.

Another pointless game. There was a lot of hype, but don't see these exceptional players (Wright, Bedard) having that Next One upside.
Bedard's start to the season has been disappointing to be sure. I was expecting 2+ PPG but perhaps last season was a fluke.

The WHL was weak but that doesn't change the fact that Bedard had, at 16, the 2nd best PPG behind an 18-year-old NHL Draft Top 10 player in a team where, except his line partners, everyone is in negative .

The season looks like it's off to a bad start but a 6-game streak is too short to review.

He still has looked very good but the WHL is overall much improved compared to last year. More Euros are in and each team is stronger. I am a bit surprised that Svozil hasn’t aided his production though. Would it be a disappointing season if he scored at or even under a PPG?

Yes IMO, 2 PPG is not realistic but should comfortably be over PPG if he's to be the #1 in 2023

For me it would be, considering the expectations. Just a PPG would be rough. Perhaps 2 PPG would be expecting too much but I'd say that if it's below 1.5 points per game it's tough to not consider it at least a bit disappointing.

Yes it would be a very disappointing season for him to be under a PPG. People predicting a 2 PPG season are out of their minds. Not a chance he was going to put up that many points as a 16 year old.

This is a different year now.. its a full season with more travelling and better rosters. I would say if he doesn't put up atleast 80 points and/or in top 10 of league scoring it's a disappointing season for him.

Sure even that is a big ask for a 16 year old but after seeing how his season was last year and just how good he is, I think it's somewhat expected from himself and from fans.

Hes off to a quiet start so far, but he will put up a massive game here soon and he will jump up within the league leaders soon

Two PPG at 16 is very unrealistic. I think only Crosby has done so. I don’t think even Tavares did it despite his massive goal totals

Think he’s at a learning curve. Points will certainly come as long as he stays focused and doesn’t get frustrated he’ll be fine. Team needs to get some wins and the shadows will disappear.

Fellow former Regina Pat Sam Steel was VERY close in his D+1 year back in 2016/17 with 131 points in 66 games... needed 1 more point to be at the very rare 2ppg season.

I'll have to look back and see when the last time a player finished with 2ppg in the WHL

Byron Ritchie in 96-97 got 126 PTS in 63 games. Exactly 2.00 PPG.

R-E-L-A-X. Bedard has a few off games, he'll adjust and be better.

He has played 6 games lol he could pop off 4 points in his next game and all of a sudden you look silly.

Why should he look silly by just giving facts? As of now the only ones who looks silly are they who drew comparisons to McDavid after 15 Games.

Trying to draw any conclusions based off of 6 games is silly. That is the point. It literally just takes one good game at this point and he is back on a "acceptable" point pace for the Russian poster who certainly doesn't have an agenda in pushing that Bedard isn't quite as good as people think he is :sarcasm:

He just mentioned a fact. That this triggers you says more about you than about any russian agenda. To come to a conclusion based off 15 games, namely that he is as good as McDavid or even better, is at least as silly. You don't seem to worry about sample size when people making statements in the other direction.

I never did?

Fully agree and I really doubt that he scores under a PPG he just has too much talent.

Meanwhile Dalibor Dvorsky is ripping Sweden's U20 at 23 points in 13 games as a 16yr old, on pace for a record U17 season in this league. Could a bad season by Bedard make Dvorsky the no 1 pick challenger?
