No idea. One was in his 17 year old season. The other in his 18 year old season.
That's how hockey works in Canada. Your age is based on your birth year. This isn't a controversial, or remotely new, topic. Except maybe to you.

Slight correction, it's how hockey works everywhere else in the world.

Was Kane eligible for u18s in his draft year? No, so it was his 18 year old season.

Was Bedard eligible for u18s his draft year? Yes, so it was his 17 year old season.

The only reason things are done this way in the NHL is for legality reasons, nothing more.

I’ve seen close to 20 of his games. With the puck on his stick, he absolutely tilts the ice, as do the other players I listed. He’s basically impossible for defenders to contain at the WHL level, and I’ll bet it’ll be the same in his prime in the NHL.

However, when the other team has the puck, he’s not elite at winning it back like Sid or McDavid, who are absolute puck hounds (Sid especially). This is totally fine, as I noted I think he’s very comparable to many of the NHL’s best forwards in this regard (Kane, Kucherov, Ovechkin, Jack Hughes, Pastrnak, Marner, Stamkos, etc.), it’s just a difference between him and Sid/McDavid, who he often gets compared to.

Marner leads the NHL in takeaways so this definitely doesn't apply to him any longer. I agree with your overall point though.

Here is the thing. Bedard seems to be a little more about himself than McDavid it seems. That stuff isn't going to make you generational in the NHL. McDavid didn't give a f about no haircut, wore worn out unironed suits and just seemed more hockey nerd than Bedard. Bedard seems like a guy who might let the fame get to him a bit. If he does, he will be more like a Patrick Kane than a Connor McDavid.

Patrick Kane is a 3 time Stanley Cup Champion and one of the greatest players of his generation. That’s a pretty nice floor.

lmao people getting mad because he's being compared to Kane as if that's insulting...this thread must be filled with Connor's cousins.
Yup! Apparently comparing Bedard to a player who has over 1200 pts and 3 cups is insulting!

This guy hasn’t stepped foot on NHL ice yet, but he’s already the next Gretzky to kids on HFboards! I blame it on shiny new toy syndrome.

I think Bedard will be plenty happy if he has a career like Kane, and I don’t doubt he will.

The whole team got their hair cut like that for the playoffs.

Very strange comment after all his interviews during the WJC, asking the reporters to stop talking about him

You must of been one of the posters who thought it was blasphemy that McDavid was being called the future best player in the world because he "never stepped foot on the ice".
For every Mcdavid and Crosby there are guys like Daigle and Lafreniere who bust. Do I see Bedard busting personally? Hell no, but I am not going to anoint him the next Mcdavid because @Bfan14 said so.

Here is another thing. If Bedard does end up a better Patrick Kane , how is that strange ? Thats about as close to generational you can get without being generational, unless you think we should anoint him as Gretzky since he put up Gretzky like numbers in the dub ? Crosby was even better in his last junior year, McDavid averaged about the same ppg and absolutely annihilated the stats sheet in the playoffs. Every generation player has to prove himself in the big show. McDavid has exceeded his expectations so far. Its Bedard's turn.

I think it’s hard for people to see him turn into a Kane level player when he’s a better prospect than Kane was. But Kane exceeded expectations so it wouldn’t be that unusual.

It's not just me saying so, its pretty much everyone.

Comparing him to Lafreniere just shows how little you know.
When did I compare the player to Lafreniere? I said there are guys who have busted or didn't turn out as great as people thought. Two examples being Lafreniere and Daigle. I never said Bedard will you clown.

Pretty much everyone? I think there are plenty of people who are in the wait and see approach.

Every single expert sure as hell thinks so. I couldn't care less what the contrarions who also thought Eichel > McDavid have to say.

Bedard has exactly two comparable in the Modern NHL. Crosby and McDavid.

But sure, if Bedard suddenly decides he doesn't like Hockey and wants to be an actor like Daigle then you may have a point
He's a Matthews caliber prospect. That's nothing to get upset about.

Hes been vastly better than Matthews as a prospect but okkkk guy, if @whiskeyythe devil says so then it must be true! Let's ignore what he's actually done and that everyone who's involved in hockey knows he's a generational prospect

I can't wait to bring this thread back up
Lol look how worked up you're getting about a prospect being compared to the reining Hart and Rocket winner.

In your opinion was Matthews or Eichel a better prospect? Obviously Matthews is the better NHLer but I’m talking on draft night which guy would you have taken if they were the same age.

I think Eichel was probably the slightly better prospect because of his skating. If he could have stayed healthy who knows but before that point they were pretty much neck and neck.

And look how wrong you are? You've been moving goal posts this whole thread, it's quite hilarious how much he keeps proving you wrong
How am I wrong? Is he in the NHL yet? You obviously don't even know what moving goalposts means.

He's not a McDavid level player. Nothing to get all worked up over.
