C Calum Ritchie - Oshawa Generals, OHL (2023, 27th, COL; traded to NYI)

points do not tell the story...he had a very slow 1st half...made up for a good 2nd half and had over a point per game in the 2nd half of the season. The guy makes stuff happen everytime he is on the ice...kids is going to be a good one......Remember when Ryan O'Reilly never had a point per game in his draft year, went 2nd round despite being the 1st overall pick in the OHL draft...kind of turned out for Colorado who drafted him now other teams.
Oshawa was not a very good team either. It’s hard to get points on a bottom feeder especially when you’re one of the top guys that gets most of the attention. He did finish at a point per game though.

The Avs may have landed an ideal 2C, big kid with playmaker instincts, to compliment MacKinnon in a few years.

this type of talent/player doesn’t last until pick 27 in most drafts.

Super surprised he didn’t go in teens, if not high teens. Seems like the type of player the NHL really values.
Agreed 100%. Sometimes I feel like NHL scouting departments gaslight me with how they value things. With that said picks like him are exactly why I disagree with people who pushed back on the idea this draft was deep. It was very deep lol

Ritchie will be making his season debut for the Generals tonight. Gennies just acquired Connor Lockhart to help facilitate some offence on this low scoring team. Ritchie coming back should be another big boost to that.

So, is he a two way center, great at face-offs, great defensively?
what is his forte?, so to speak, because scoring goals, points, seems not to be.

45 points in his rookie season
59 points in his sophomore season (draft year)
16 points (in 14 games), in his d+1 season

48 goals, 120 points in about 140 games.. in the OHL,
the most high scoring league of the trio

sure, players develop with their own pace
some are better at pro level, what junior level i guess

Cal Ritchie can’t score points huh. Is that so?

Ritchie is now at 1.59 ppg. Up hugely over his 1.00 ppg last year and 0.69 ppg two years ago. I sense a trend and it’s directionally correct.

he’s an eye opening +21 in just 22 games and he’s dragged his team from last place to within 2 points of first in under two months. Ritchie is having a monster season and impact since his return from offseason surgery.

whats his nhl projection? I don’t know…. Impressive 2C ? Low end 1C?

It was a matter of time, I think those who were watching all knew he was capable of far more production.

He's grest this season, I think he can become a good 2C but keep I got so often deceived by the ''Ritchies'' lol

Pump the brakes buddy as you are talking about actual scouting and George likes to post insane stats from small quick guys with little projection.

Isn't 22 games a bit of small sample size to claim "monster" and ignore his previous production?
Hunter over in Kitchener, now that's a monster of a season, bigger sample size too.

You'll have to forgive me, you once said Byram> Quinn and that Girard had more value than Quinn.

Calum Ritchie is a legit future #2 NHL center has had some injury problems sure but looking at the stats only usually doesn't work out.

The +21 in 22 games kind of indicates his impact.

45 points in 65 games was excellent production for a 16 year old

Only his 17 year old season (and his draft year) was disappointing from a production standpoint, but he was reportedly dealing with a nagging shoulder injury for most of the season
