Pearson in 2012, which was a brutal draft year for forwards and loaded with defensemen. He was never rated by CSB in either 2010 or 2011, then was 25th NA in his final draft year.

He led Barrie in scoring and was third in the OHL, so almost identical situation to Leason.

Steve, what's going on with Leason? 64 points in 31 games before the World Juniors and 20 points in 20 games since?

He's got a new Leas on life

I am saying this blindly not knowing how the WHL playoffs are going but many times if you are a top team you play a really weak team which allows one to inflate their stats

After scoring 7 points in first 4 games, he went several games with goose eggs, then had 4 points in 2 games -> goose eggs again
but now has re-found his consistent form. 8g+4a=12pts in his last 7 games (1.71 ppg), 7 game goal streak.

Leads the WHL play-offs scoring with 23 points.

Strikes me as a player the Canes will look hard at with picks #36 and #37.

Still wonder if he slides that far. There is always the risk of drafting a double overager, but he finished the season at 1.61PPG. Compare that to 2017 first rounders Glass (1.81PPG) and Frost (1.87PPG), he isn’t that far behind. Add in the fact that he’s 6’4 I can still see him going late teens/early twenties.

I think it's pretty crazy to consider him with a 1st round pick.

Undrafted 20 year olds in the WHL have one of the worst success rates of any prospect groups.

Elite Prospects - WHL Stats All-time season

When you consider his relatively low upside, it just seems like lots of risk with little reward.

Sometimes you just need to look at the player and not use broad groups of past players.

See Drake Batherson. Good players succeed.

But I would definitely take him with an early 2nd rounder.

To be far to Leason he only turned 20 two weeks ago. He seems to be a player that would have a high floor as well. He seems to be smart defensively and his skating has really improved. In the 20s if there is a big guy who is a good bet to be a third liner with second line upside and should be NHL ready soon (which is important to teams in the later half of the round) why not grab him?

The team that is in need of a NHL ready, really well skating, big & skilled top 6 (top 9) forward and doesn't have a high second round pick
will pick him late(ish) in the 1st round.

I think he goes between 20-31

The vast majority of guys on that list are in their 19 year old season, especially the ones who had pro potential and were drafted high. The ones who faded into obscurity and were undrafted are 20 year old overagers, who aren't even eligible to be drafted in those seasons. There is a reason you're not hearing anything about Tristian Langan out of the WHL, that's because he is a 20 year old overager.

This is Leason's 19 year old season, he's not a 20 year old overager like you're painting him.

This is Leason's last year of draft eligibility.

It's his 20 year old season.

Tanner Pearson went late first round, not surprising if he takes similar route.

No, this would be his 19 year old season. His 20 year old season would be his CHL overage season...there is no 21 year old season

16 year old season - 1st year CHL eligible

17 year old season - 2nd year CHL eligible, most people's 1st draft

18 year old season- 3rd year CHL eligible, late birthdays and 1st season overagers draft

19 year old season - 4th year CHL eligible, double overage NHL draft (This is Leason)

20 year old season - 5th year eligible, CHL overagers player (only 3 allowed per team), UFA to whomever in the NHL. They dominate CHL leagues every year am deathly then fade into nothing. This is who you're describing.

Leason played in the U-20's right? A 19 year olds tournament. What does that tell you he's considered this year?
