On one hand people say, the draft age should be increased to 19 years, because 18 is too early to say, what a player this or that prospect will become. On the other hand, when they see 19 year old (ok, he'll be 20 at the draft) tearing up CHL, they say, he's too old to be picked high...

Mostly because of the way the 18 year olds have performed in the same year..... If there was an 18 year old Leason vs a 20 year old Leason having identical years the 18 year old would be picked first every time.

Some players develop later. That’s why you’ll see undrafted players that make it to the NHL. But if you have a 17/18 year old performing at a certain level your more likely to expect them to continue to develop and get better as they get older.

Edit: Nevermind, I thought he was a 2000 birthday for some reason... Either way I hope the Flames pick him up in the later rounds, he still looks extremely promising. But ultimately I want the Flames to go for someone like Seider, Soderstrom, Honka, etc.

Mark's a great guy, and I enjoy his reads and his posts here, but look at his November, December, January rankings they are always way off and tend to under and overvalue a lot of players and what they say in those months almost contradicts their April, and Final rankings. Their 2017 January list for example had Patrick, Vilardi, Liljigren, and Kostin as their top 4. With Comtois as 6. And this had "team scout" info too where these players were highly sought after and would be the pinnacle pieces in this draft. The thing is, a lot of team scouts are big on disinformation out of their organization. I'm not saying I am more credible, I am a hfposter who has not devulged who or what I work for, all I am saying is, just because someone's saying something, even if they are quoting a real executive, doesn't mean it's true. I urge you to watch some games, this is a really great draft.

Nope, nope, and nope.

Weak top end. Horrible year for the OHL, weak year for Europe. Not even close to a draft like 2015.

Ryan Suzuki is popping up in top-10s and there’s no way in hell I’d take him ahead of Leason.

Do you want the Canucks to select Leason in the top 10?

I hope he lasts until the 3rd round.

Wont fall past the 2nd.. He has been completely dominating all season in Prince Albert. If anything his stock will continue to rise and by seasons end he will be a guarenteed 1st rounder

PA will have a very long season and most likely will represent WHL at the memorial cup. He will continue to get more and more well known and heavily scouted

Trivia question:

Who was the last player passed over twice in the Draft and then taken in the 1st round?

No doubt in my mind that he gets picked in the 1st. Not only that, i expect him to be a high 1st rounder.

All you have to do is compare him to another elite 2017 prospect from the same league, like Glass.. atm he's a comparable prospect to Glass imo.

I expect him to be one of the first picks when a team feels like there's a big drop in talent in the draft (so say around the #12 pick in the 2018 draft, for example).

Well for one thing he is 30 days younger than Cody Glass and is producing at the same rate as him.
So does that mean Glass has reached his potential?

I kid. This is a late bloomer who I think will go high.

In my personal top 3 players of the tournament for Canada, Leason is in there alongside Frost and DiPietro.

Leason didn’t wow but he was ultra solid.

I wouldn’t take him in the top 15 because I don’t see any game breaking upside but once all those guys are gone, he’d be real high on the list.

Wish I got to watch more of Canada play. Wanted to see how Leason compared to Glass, Tippet, Norris, Frost.

Hope the Oilers draft him. Seems like he'll fall to the range that the Oilers are picking.
I wouldn't pick him in the 10-15 range (where we'll pick most likely). But if we can somehow go on a big playoff run and end up with a late first then I'd take him. Or if we tanked into the Earth and got a really early 2nd.

With the Raiders, Leason has 4.37 primary points per 60 minutes of 5v5 play. The only WHLer who is even close is Glass at 4.13, and then the next tier caps at the low 3s. Fix-Wolansky, Blichfeld and co. have separated from the rest of the pack, and they are still hilariously far away from Leason and Glass. Just ridiculous.

I don't know what kind of context there is behind this - how ridiculous his SH% is, etc. - but the more I think of his domination, the more certain I am of somebody taking this kid early.

Reminds me of Mark Stone with better wheels. I would take him with the Senators 32nd overall pick.
