Is it a good sign if he's being started in the defensive zone? Does it mean he's reliable for defense or does it just mean the coach doesn't think he's good enough at scoring?

It's a very good thing.

Well, maybe not good from a coaching perspective as you want more balance... it also will suffocate offensive potential. But the fact he was driving the play that much while starting primarily at a disadvantage is a very good thing.

For a young guy like Matthews, you'd expect him to start more in the Ozone. Starting in the Dzone means the TMac is comfortable with him defensively.

When you start the VAST majority of your shifts in the Dzone, I am not surprised your corsi is lower. Not too worried about 1 or 2 games.

How do you find other games, nothing is showing up.

I just change the last number on the address bar and pray. Doing anything else breaks it.

I'd love it if someone told me if there was some sort of an index.

Yup, Matthews may be on a higher level than Dvorak; but they do share similar all-around qualities that meshed very well with Mitch.

Really looking forward to seeing how our lines fall into place - I have a feeling one of our lesser talked about forward prospects will find a niche in our top6. Especially when you have the ability to play with such high end skill (Nylander/Matthews/Marner)

Should be a fun development year - so glad we have the right guy steering this ship.

With their puck distribution skills, even i could probably eek out at 20g 30a season.
Hell, look at Kunitz

Ay, a goal! Not a sexy one but the scoreboard doesn't give points for sexy. Again one of the best players on this team and now on the top line with McDavid and Gaudreau. Looking great again.

Matthews showing why he was a #1 overall pick. He has gotten better each game. Terrific today. A smart 200 foot player with high end skills.

Such tremendous anticipation by Matthews, indicative of a high hockey iq.
High end skill, smart as a whip and a level of determination that's through the roof. A great combination.

I did not expect Matthews to be able to hang with some of the best players in the world right off the bat, I'm honestly taken aback! Incredibly excited to have him lead my fav team to winning days ahead :)

Has more talent on ice ever been assembled on one team than the 6 man extra attacker unit Team NA had at the end there...

McDavid-Matthews-Eichel-Gaudreau-Rielly-Eklbad

Jeez!
Pretty sure in the 87 Canada cup, Canada ran out a line of Gretzky, Lemieux and Hawerchuk. Assuming at one point they put Bourque and Coffey with them, I'd say that trumps the NA line by a wide margin.

That was a terrific line, but I think they only had them together for that one iconic shift. I don't recall them playing Coffey and Bourque with them, however.

My guess is if they were willing to use them in that type of situation, they probably played on the PP together. Either way, as exciting as that NA line was, there have been much better collections of talent on one line before.

Matthews has been fantastic. His anticipation and puck control are really elite, to go along with excellent size and very good skating. It's early, but I won't be surprised if he's better than Eichel fairly soon, and I like Eichel a lot.
