Michel therrien refuses to change the pp unless they're struggling on the pp which is working right now. Why fix something that isn't broken? Therrien doesn't want to take gionta off the pp cause he's the captain, desharnais is on the pp for no real reason and after that everyone else has earned their pp time except maybe to a lesser extent plekanec but he's a veteran so I doubt he moves for a rookie. Seriously who can galchenyuk replace on the pp without disturbing the lockeroom?

It's a no brained that yakupov gets pp time because who would replace him with? Horcoff? Paajarvi?

If Galchenyuk is better than the other forwards on the team at PP, he would get PP time. He gets about 1 minute of PP time each game and has like 3 points. 3 points in approximately 40 minutes of PP time is about as ineffective as it gets. Oh, and those Horcoff and Paajarvi characters? They happen to play with Yakupov on the PP.

Galchenyuk gets 1 minute off pp time per game ? That's news to me. The last time I remember Gally being out there on the pp that wasn't a faceoff with 10 seconds left on the penalty was a while a go.

A good chunk of his accumulated PP time is from early in the season, when MT would often throw out 3 different units on a PP. He hasn't done it in awhile though.

Players shouldnt get PP because they are vets. If a player is a better PP player he will get time regardless of status

Horcoff belongs on the PP but in a different spot/role.

Yakupov takes RNH's spot on the half wall a majority of the time.

Maybe they shouldn't but it still how it is here. Try watch the Habs once in a while. It's the same thing with Eller who has as many points as DD on the PP despite averaging only 0:35 PP icetime per game to DD's 2:40. And yet, every game it's DD who's on the first unit.

Galchenyuk and Eller have been our 2 best forwards for the last 5 games or so and yet they haven't got the chance to replace DD who has been pretty useless for quite a long stretch now. It's quite frustrating but to say that Galchenyuk doesn't gett PP time because he's not good on it is ludicrous.

Not saying he isnt good at all. Im saying, dont hold it against a player for getting PP points.

Players get PP time not as a gift, but because the coach believes they can help the team out.

I meant good on the PP.

Therien has been very cautious in managing Alex's usage and reluctant on giving him important responsibilities. He's taking the long term approach and he has that luxury since the team is performing well.

Galchenyuk is playing wing.:shakehead

And no. Yakupov has more pts than Galchenyuk but somehow he is struggling? :help:

Just wondering, is Yakupov playing on the top two lines? Also does he get a shift on the PP? Cause Chuckie plays on a third line with no PP time, so comparing points would be irrelevant at this point in time

Depends, sometimes hes with gagner and MPS. But thats because Hemsky was out. Most nights (like tonight) hes with Horcoff on the 3rd

Yakupov started as left wing with Gagner/Hemsky, was moved down in about 8 games, played on the third line with guys like Horcoff, Belanger, Smyth, and Jones until 2 games ago when Hemsky got injured, and is now (finally) back in the top 6.

I think if both hit their ceiling this is Bure vs Fedorov 2.0 :handclap:

Honestly, who would you pick ?

I'm torn between both of them, still having a potential Fedorov in a ''weak draft'' 3rd overall is pretty good.

If I was building a team I don't know who I pick, I think I would go Fedorov since history speaks for itself. (very close taugh)

Anyone watching Galchenyuk right now will tell you he will ends up as a centerman. That's actually something the coaching staff in Montreal said themselves also. It's a given, he looks more dangerous at center right now, but Montreal has depth and they want him to play on the top 3 lines.

What were Alex Galchenyuk's Odds?

I am wondering what you sell professed hockey guru's thought Montreal Canadiens Center Top prospect odds/chances were at making Team America's ( world police :P ) hockey team.

Team USA wanted to see him at center, if he had been a center this season and played good he would have had a chance, but the odds were low. That's what the people in the know around the Habs said after the team USA crew scouted Montreal at the begining of the season.

I heard Galchenyuk was too Russian. And the US didn't want him because of that.

Poile acknowledged he was in the conversation.

He played for the WC last year.

We all knew any shot he had at the US team was quite slim though.

He's got lots more learning to do.

Still just a kid though.

Hope he bounces back OK from the hand injury.

He'll be fine! So much talent, drive, and work ethic!

I'm a huge fan but it would have been ridiculous imo to seriously consider him over someone like Stepan as a depth forward. Loved his selection for the WC though and he proved worthy of it.

Its unfortunate that the NHL is leaning towards not playing in the next olympics. Galchenyuk and Trouba in m opinion are going to be stars in this league by then.
