Byfield signs 5 year, $6.25M per extension

Ok, like who? I feel like I spend way to much time here, but I can't remember anyone who this fits, but since it's said ad-nauseum, I'm sure finding plenty of examples shouldn't be tough/

I have been accused of it plenty of times, even though I've been comparing him to a PLD caliber player for three seasons now. PLD in his age 21 and 22 seasons. PLD in those years was producing similar results on both sides of the ice.

How about the people on this forum who compared him to players like Malkin and Jack Hughes, do they get the same "look stupid" treatment, considering he's not close to that level, or is the "looking stupid" just reserved for the people who supposedly said he was so bad that back to back 50 pt seasons make them look stupid.
There are plenty of people who gave up on Byfield or felt that the Kings should cut bait and trade him before his value gets lower. Of course, unicornpig can correct me if he meant other people, but to act like a chunk of this forum hadn't either given up on or on the cusp of giving up is pretty serious revisionism.

There have been valid or interesting points and concerns. I'd put your comparison of Byfield to PLD as interesting, although I disagree by sheer virtue of PLD's issues have always been effort related, while Byfield has been confidence related.

Others have pointed out that Byfield taken at No. 2 overall hasn't yielded the immediate return that is expected of a No 2 pick. Those are reasonable. But defenders have suggested patience, which others (including you) have shown.

Does the last point really warrant people being called stupid? If anybody had been told on draft night that in his age 21 and 22 seasons he would have back to back seasons of roughly 20G and 55Pts would people have been happy with that? Do you think people who say that Byfield hasn't lived up to his draft position, "look stupid" for making those comments?

And how about the people who had him as Malkin, or even as Jack Hughes by now, there were many many people on this forum who had those takes, many of them by people I enjoy chatting with and think highly of, considering five years in that he is nowhere close to those players do the people that made those comments "look stupid"? not really directed at you, since you didn't make the comments and maybe I am being unfair, since I myself have been accused of this, you know with the "bustfield" stuff. It just seems there is a massive amount of goal-post moving going on in regards to what was truly said.

Byfield's level of play five years in as a #2 OA pick is well below average/expectation, does it improve more in the coming years? Maybe, who knows. But I am just curious what people actually said, to be made to look stupid by his production and level of play, one would have had to have him on the level of guys like Aki Berg, and I just feel like I never remember that.

And how about the people who had him as Malkin, or even as Jack Hughes
Malkin is from a different era and in the glory years had Crosby and Staal holding down other lines but I still think he will be like these 2. You dont think so?
Have you been watching the games? Some nights hes pretty dominant and he still hasnt reached his top level.

Yes, I’ve been watching the games, and he’s played well, he also struggled mightily earlier in the year. A season is 82 games, I’m not going to overreact to highs or to lows, and just judge the season on its entirety.

And no, I don’t think he is going to be at that level of player. I stand by what I’ve been saying for a couple of years, that his ceiling is a high end championship level 2C rather than a championship level 1C. But that will probably be twisted by some into me calling him a bust.

Ya Ax!

Good to see ya.

Lol Statto is doing on tea and crumpets.

Byfield is a slow adapter, its not trust.

He takes a while going to different position, linemates and respectfully growing into his role on the team.

Now he is the train that knows what station he was at and is steaming down the tracks to all future destinations.

Don't fake it guys!

If you weren't a beleliever, we know you are a deceiver.

You can ride in coach.

All aboard !

Thats fair. Mcdavid and Matthews havent been #1 centers on cup teams and those 2 are a caliber above nearly all the rest and are above Byfields ceiling. Im not sure he will be a cup 1c either especially without an all star supporting cast. He is missing a little bit of nastiness Mackinnon and Mcdavid have also. Malkin has the nastiness too but more guys from that generation had to because refs werent coming to save you from slashes and hooks.
