Bunting UFA Next Seasom

Hyman signed before his "dynamite playoffs", he has been a dud his entire career. He still only has 29 points in 48 playoff games with a 16 in 16.

He is overpaid and his contract is too long.

There's only one way for Kyle/Shanny to gain adoration from fans: winning.

As for Bunting I think he's a decent player. Yes Kyle will likely keep him. Is he ideal for our top 6? I am starting to question that. I wish we were a little more heavy (net front/leaning on defenders/forecheck/puck retrieval) in the top 6. No I am not suggesting that we try to acquire Lucic either.:leafs

Too bad the savings from these types of deal just went to line the pockets of our top guys and basically neutralized the benefit. Imagine what could have been if our stars had been ok taking a bit of a haircut? I guess a big part of the reason these opportunities exist is because people want to play with Matthews, Marner, etc., but still!!

(Sorry, I realize this doesn't really add anything to the Bunting conversation and has been said ad nauseum, but I can't vent to my wife about this stuff, so I'm posting here instead!)

He'll likely be bringing back futures if traded as a pending UFA. Have my doubts that Bunting can be capably and immediately replaced for 950K or less as well.

I'm not suggesting that every single Leafs fan has to adore them. I just think it's silly to turn a thread about Bunting, who was a VERY good signing by Dubas, into a 'let's bash Dubas' thread.

Funny how he had to go to another team to have a dynamite playoffs. I wonder if it coukd be his previous line mates or his utilization

Funny you reply to my comment when I’m hardly the only saying the same thing. Guess I’m still rent free in that cranium of yours
 
Term will be very Important for him especially in Toronto. I think he will sacrifice a bit of money per year to stay here longer. I believe 4 mill over 5 to 6 years is what he will get. He loves Toronto and is very close to his family and friends, and he also very much enjoys playing on the Leafs top line with M&M. Really hope he stays.

If 29 in 48 or 0.6 PPG is considered a dud and not worth 5.5M what would 33 in 39 games or 0.85 PPG be worth/considered? Its obviously better but is it worth 2 times the money if 0.6 PPG is not worth 5.5M. Asking for 2 friends that are eligible to sign extensions in 12 and 24 months.

Well, he played a lot with Draisaitl or McDavid in Edmonton, and he shot well over his career average shooting %.

I'd probably go with sample size over a specific thing, but Hyman was once again a passenger in Edmonton, he wasn't a driving force, in fact most of the lines he played on (maybe all) had 50% CF or lower.

I'd assume he'd jump for 6x3. Who knows maybe he'd want to gamble on himself+the cap rising

If we resign him it would start after his current deal so we don't lose any of the value from the admittedly big steal that dubas made with him.

He was pretty hurt during the playoffs or seemed. He'll be fine
 
I think the more aggressive, BDE play would be to trade Bunting for a Hagel lite package and then rely on your Moneyball department to find the next Bunting in free agency. But it’s not a video game so I imagine we’ll just walk him to free agency and worry about a replacement next summer.

One could argue that we should only include this year as Edm paid him for what they thought he could produce going forward not what he had already produced in Toronto. 5.5M for a PPG seems like they are getting their moneys worth so far.

The guy getting 11.6M produced 20 pts in 19 Playoff games under his 11.6M contract
The guy getting almost 11M produced 16 in his 19 games under that contract.

Yeah the last couple of years of that contract may be an issue but Edm will cross that bridge when they come to it. As of right now he is out producing his contract in the playoffs.

Let Bunting work for his next contract and stick him with Tavares.

I'd be really curious to see his numbers at the end of the season.

We could save a boatload of money.

Would probably have worked out if we could have signed knies. Give the kid some confidence as well

Weird way to look at contracts, but hey, at least Matthews, Marner, and Nylander are underpaid now.

What's funny? I don't know what your trying to say here, We don't miss Hyman enjoy him hope he continues to do well for you guys,
and was it him having a dynamite playoffs or was it McDavid inflating his numbers?
