GDT: Buffalo Sabres 1, Los Angeles Kings 0 (Final)

Some good posts this morning. I think a lot of posters realize that the Sabres have our number in Buffalo. (Huge credit to Ted Nolan.). But if last night's 1-0 loss had been to the Oilers, though...

I think what is disturbing is not one game in isolation, but the recent trend.

Part of the fun (?) of being a fan is the emotional highs and lows, which I fully participate in, but I learned in the San Jose series that the Kings are mentally strong and to never count them out. After Game 3 I thought it was over.

Re. The Manchester boys, which ones are we thinking about? The kid with the most buzz is Nick Shore and he's a center. Wingers?

I think O'Neil, O'Brien are doing really well in Manchester. Weal as well, but he's also a center like Shore.

This. we are absolutely getting on the team for last night's game but only because it's the microcosm of a trend, not because "it's the Sabres" or anything like that. Credit is due, but that doesn't mean the Kings escape criticism. It's firmly 2013 mode, where we Corsi the bejesus out of the other team but do nothing, but we break down in our own end.

Teams are up and down, that's normal, but a reminder that as of right now, we are not in a playoff spot. Color that however you want.

I would be shocked if we didn't see Shore at some point soon as well as maybe some of the guys who have been Manch regulars (I'm partial to O'Neill for paying his dues but no clue what his NHL prospects are like--seems like just a really good minor leaguer) not because they're necessarily BETTER than our rostered players but because of the aforementioned hunger and drive.

Shore is a friggin Beast in the AHL, eager to see him against NHL players.

Consistently the best player on the ice in Manchester nightly. Not bad for a third round pick Futa/Lombardi, bravo.

People are going to love Shore, he is a more skilled version of Stoll(in his prime). Obviously just not as experienced.

Shore will have his growing pains, just like McNabb. Everyone will see the skill though, Shore can play hockey.

Ducks fan coming in peace!! Yes loosing to the Buffalo is bad, But you guys just cant win in that building for whatever reason lol. Shouldn't you guys be used to this? Im sure kings will get hot and have like a 15 game point streak, Sneek into the playoffs and win the cup again.. Everyone expects it lol. As long as you guys are in the playoffs, It pains me to say this, but you guys have a switch for another gear!! Thats what makes the Kings Dangerous.. Missing Voynov is a huge blow though, I would rather have Voynov than Mcnab. Just saying. Peace!!

We need to covert you to the light side of the force. Your thoughts betray you, CrazyDuck4u. I feel the good in you, the conflict.

The thing is that I don't think anyone under 6' is going to get a sniff in L.A. So O'Neill and O'Brien are out and Weal's chances of a career here are slim. O'Neill was in camp but didn't seem to distinguish himself. Mersch isn't ready.

I do expect to see Shore to get a cup of coffee at some point this season, but that would require breaking up That '70s Line, unless Kopi, Stoll or Rick gets injured (God forbid).

Oh, and nice of you to stop by, you Crazy Duck, you. :D at Flour Child's post.

Nothing against Weal, but Shore is by far a more complete hockey player. Shore can kill penalties and is good defensively. after 22 games, both have 22 points. Shore is +16 while Weal is a plus one. Shore has two short hander also. Shore is also very good at face offs. With the Kings lack of scoring, it's hard to imagine him sitting in Man much longer. But.

One thing I noticed about him this year is that his SOG are way down. He's got 57 SOG in 28 games, nowhere near enough to score 30+ goals, which is what pretty much is expected of him. He just doesn't shoot as much as his usual. Not sure to what to attribute this fact.

Yeah but he was centering Toffoli/Pearson when a bulk of their points were scored. The goals were still being scored by that line and his assists are way up.

I don't know what answer is but the 70's line started the season off hot and then cooled. Nobody has picked it up since then really.

The one thing I would like to see is when the Kings play these stagnant low scoring games is Dustin Brown or some of the other physical players pick up the physical play. That is usually how the Kings have turned the tide in play off games. A big hit or just a few simple grinding shifts where they are being physical in the corners which eventually leads to a mistake. So far this year, that has been lacking on most nights. I feel like most of the team is looking for someone else to do the heavy lifting. I've seen Kopitar lay big hits in the playoffs but he completely avoids it in the regular season. He doesn't even have to lay a big hit but just use his size and not shy away from the contact.

What was unique about the loss last night was that other than the first 5 minutes of the game, the Sabres did not forecheck deep and down low and put any pressure on the Kings D. This, to me, it was a rather easy night breaking the puck out. Other teams have come at the Kings D and most of the time they have had them pinned in and rattled, and then Quick bails them out. This game was all about our forwards getting any pressure on a team just sitting back. Kings usually win any game at any place when the style is like this. Of all the losses so far this year, this was yet even a completely different kind of loss.

Lol no need to convert, I live in LA but ive been a diehard ducks fan since 95, Grew up watching Selanne and Kariya, My whole family and most of my friends are kings fans, But I look beyond that, To me Hockey comes first, I play roller hockey as well, If someone is educated enough I have a nice convo with them. If they start talking BS, I move along. lol

Good thing he dusted him off...you don't know with Quick he might of grabbed his legs and tackled him down if he didn't. Smart Rick.

My concern is kopitar/carter. You people do realize that they are both on career worse trajectories right ?

Carter has 2 goals in his last 20 games folks. The Kings are not going to win games with those two not scoring. That is a huge red flag.

I would agree with the flip the switch thing , if the two top point producers were right as rain. But if the production doesn't pick up , there will be no switch flipped.

Both guys need shooting practice, badly. I've never seen Carter miss so many shots since he's been a King. Carter lost his mojo during the first road trip, and is still looking for it.

I respect that.

Want to cry more. Check out the Kings offensive stat projections. Looks like a dead puck era team, and not a good one.

I can't even go on, it's awful and this tells a plenty good story.

And Dwight King currently in the lead through 7 holes to wear the LA Kings Green Jacket this year with a -6. Although my money is still on the 2 time defending champion. We should make a wager, RP  .

Kopitar on pace to not even break 40 points.....I can't even.....What ?

WTF yo!!

Kopitar is 27, not 35 years of age....GRRRR
