Rumor: Buffalo & NYR having conversations about Trocheck today

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
There just isn't the urgency is all.

Plenty other routes to take to improve team.
??? the premise of this thread is that we are accepting the tweets that Buffalo is currently interested in Trocheck??!

if you think the tweets are wrong, then that's that. but the tweets are there.

I think he's saying there's no urgency to pay what some people in this thread think is reasonable.

Sure...because there are conversations doesn't mean Buffalo has to be all in and go for broke.

Teams don't value players all the same based on team needs and different points in the season

"plenty of other avenues to improve the team" pretty clearly = "we don't need trocheck"

we're talking about what is reasonable. I supplied the Nelson deal as a reasonable comp with the caveat that there is public evidence that GMs are trying to put their teams together earlier as deadline load-ups just haven't paid dividends.

This all day.

Look, if the Sabres are trading for Trochek....I think it's fait accompli that 20 OA WILL be part of the return. The debate is "How much is Buffalo adding to it?"

Personally, I wouldn't add much more than 20 OA. Certainly nothing of any significance. Want Krebs? Sure. Want a guy like Gavin McCarthy? Fine. But nothing of significance.

But that's me.

Nobody wants to acknowledge McLeod because they all want to argue about high end young players that they clearly won’t get. Never change, HFboards.

Trochek’s career arc:

- shows well defensively
- has a decent season offensively
- gets signed to too much money
- has a few average seasons
- gets traded to a team looking for a two way center
- has a decent season offensively
- gets signed to too much money

And repeat.

He is objectively well underpaid and has been on this current contract

As the cap goes up his cap hits look better, which is why teams look to trade for him as his contracts are close to expiring.

But those initial years of his new contract are often overpaid.

I feel like Ostlund(as much as I love his game) makes the most sense here. Assuming NYR wants a high end NHL ready Center, or maybe Jiri Kulich? Idk what else they'd add, they have more than enough cap to retain Norris as well tho i wouldn't be shocked if he was added in due to the durability concerns and NYR might want a guy like that to replace vinny and we know norris is a good player when actually playing lol.

I don't see a world where buffalo moves helenius in a trochek deal or 4th overall for that matter...... tho.....with how this week has gone, who knows lol.

Or maybe something with 20th overall and some B level prospects like Anton wahlberg? idk, i'm probably way off with this one haha

i swear, yall are incapable of separating what you *want* to happen from what you *think is likely* to happen.

isn't there anyone here who isn't just roleplaying a GM who never loses a trade?

what is a likely comparable for the Nelson deal??

Guys, there is no world you are getting Ostlund or Kulich. Get a grip.

Trocheck's AAV is $5.625 with 3 more years of control...This has to be one of the best contracts in the NHL from a team's perspective. The guy also shows up in the playoffs.

32yo 868gp 239g 392a 631pts 54.3% FO 5.625 3yrs control

If you don't want him, that's fine, but he's still a good player who can absolutely play as a solid 2C.
