Rumor: Buffalo & NYR having conversations about Trocheck today

Guys, there is no world you are getting Ostlund. Get a grip.
Fair enough, i just genuinely don't know what a guy like trochek returns. But I know he's probably more expensive than some think.

Not a NYR fan either lol. Just a Hockey fan excited to nerd out about this crazy offseason. I would hate to trade Ostlund as somebody who supports Buffalo as my 2nd team. But idk what would be needed for Trochek, tho i love his fit as a 2/3C in Buffalo especially come May and June ya know.

I can assure you that you are literally the only person who thinks that. Aside from maybe Callum Ritchie’s mom.
i didn't suggest helenius. im not insisting on helenius. i'm not insisting on anything except "45th and B tier prospect is not in line with historic comps for player"

Do they? We’ve still Thompson, Doan, Benson, Helenius, Ostlund, Norris, Kulich, McLeod, Zucker, Quinn, and Krebs. Buffalo has no shortage of young forwards ready to step up and eat Tuch’s minutes. D is where I’d have my focus if I was Jarmo.
To be fair.

Buff needs to maintaine that playoff energy this season. Selling off is one thing, but if they sell off the guys who got them out of the hole, then regress, thats not a good message to the room or fans.

Byram and Tuch are big losses and all they got in return is futures.

Getting back to the PO was a huge win. Consistency is next on the ladder even if its one one or two more showing before a regress, high pick, back-at-it push while Dahlin, Powers, etc are prime and not UFA eligable.

You dont want to be the Detroit model losing Larkin after years of mediocrity and possibly Seider on deck depending on his personal politics.

If I’m Buffalo there’s no way I’m dealing Ostlund (or Helenius). Now Trocheck will definitely have value so the #20 and other prospects would have to be on the table or maybe a bigger deal with guys like Krebs or Quinn also.

If I’m the Rangers I have little use for Norris so I’m angling for a mostly futures deal.

Trochek’s career arc:

- shows well defensively
- has a decent season offensively
- gets signed to too much money
- has a few average seasons
- gets traded to a team looking for a two way center
- has a decent season offensively
- gets signed to too much money

And repeat.
Trocheck is on a very comfortable contract right now even at age 32. 5.6M for him has turned into one of the better UFA signings the Rangers have ever done, he could've easily got close to 7M the summer he was a free-agent but he took a discount for length and it paid off. There's a lot of weird narratives surrounding certain players the Rangers either have on their roster or show interest in elsewhere because I mean you really thought he was ever going to remain a sub $5M player even when he had that 75 point season in Florida all those years ago?

Trocheck & "too much money" in the same sentence makes no sense.

I feel like Ostlund(as much as I love his game) makes the most sense here. Assuming NYR wants a high end NHL ready Center, or maybe Jiri Kulich? Idk what else they'd add, they have more than enough cap to retain Norris as well tho i wouldn't be shocked if he was added in due to the durability concerns and NYR might want a guy like that to replace vinny and we know norris is a good player when actually playing lol.

I don't see a world where buffalo moves helenius in a trochek deal or 4th overall for that matter...... tho.....with how this week has gone, who knows lol.

Or maybe something with 20th overall and some B level prospects like Anton wahlberg? idk, i'm probably way off with this one haha
NFW. I don't move Ostlund unless it's part of a package for a true star. He would have made a huge difference in the MTL playoff series. Trochek would be a nice add, but not really necessary. I don't give up any core pieces for him. That means Ostlund and Helly are off the table.

Trocheck's AAV is $5.625 with 3 more years of control...This has to be one of the best contracts in the NHL from a team's perspective. The guy also shows up in the playoffs.

32yo 868gp 239g 392a 631pts 54.3% FO 5.625 3yrs control

If you don't want him, that's fine, but he's still a good player who can absolutely play as a solid 2C.
I feel like Im the only Sabres fan who believes this. He'd be a great mentor for the young Cs coming up on Buffalo. I'd do #20 + a B prospect, but I dont think that'll get him.

This is the trade I think makes sense:

- Buffalo trades the 4th overall pick to Boston for the Leafs 2027 or 2028 pick, whichever one Boston controls and Frazer Minten.
- Buffalo then flips that plus Ostlund to New York for Vincent Trocheck and Alexis Lafreniere
- Then Buffalo trades Owen Power to Philly for the Leafs 2027 or 2028 pick, whichever one Philly controls
- Buffalo then trades that to Winnipeg for Connor Helleybyuck
- Then Buffalo trades Trocheck, Lafreniere and Minten to Vegas for Jack Eichel.

yzerman counting on this driving up the price for Larkin or is he going to figure out a bunch of teams with assets are spending them all while those with poor offers might be the only ones left to deal with.
