Ristolainen is ahead of trouba IMO. Trouba hasn't really shown he's worth a 6 year or 5+ million year

I think so too. I was real big on Trouba coming up, but he hasn't been what I thought he'd be.

Ristolainen has simply not been atrocious at defense. Another case of using analytic statistics without actually being analytical.

And another. As if those players are in remotely comparable situations.

Those players suck and Ristolainen produced less than them at even strength is the point.

Subban's numbers with Josh Gorges the last season they played together. The most direct comparable you're going to get.

I don't think that's accurate. In 2012-13, Subban played 336:39 with Gorges and posted:

59.53 CF60
48.83 CA60
54.9 CF%

Source: http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/showplayer.php?pid=1332&withagainst=true&season=2012-13&sit=5v5

Makes Ristolainen look even worse that he put up such putrid numbers with Gorges when Subban's possession was spectacular even with Gorges weighing him down.

Wrong season buddy. Using Subban's Norris season is such a fair comparable lmao

It's a poor point that says nothing. If you reversed the situations of those players or put them in the same situation, Ristolainen would outproduce them by the same metric. If you don't believe Ristolainen would outproduce those players by the referenced metric then that's a pretty serious condemnation of your evaluation of hockey. If you do believe he would outproduce those players, then hopefully you see how that metric is completely useless how you're applying it.

Quite literally, Ristolainen produced more than those players at even strength.

My fantasy team is celebrating.

I'd be excited if I was a Buffalo fan. I think they are building something special there.

Thanks, we are excited. Wasn't that long ago we were the tankers, and now this roster is already there to compete for a playoff spot with some good, young talent. I think Tim Murray has done a good job.

Ristolainen had a worse 5v5 P/60 last year than Roman Polak, Patrik Nemeth, Michal Rozsival, etc. Try again please.

You should just stop. The time when you were ahead never really was, but it doesn't mean you can't fall even further behind :)

Great deal for Buffalo, if Risto continues on his current trajectory, this could be a nice steal for them.

You're correct, my mistake. I thought Gorges was traded in summer 2013, not 2014.

If you really think Risolainen sucks, then just come out and say I've seen him play, and he's terrible. It would be more respected than comparing non-comparables, and using debateable metrics.

Me too. That's why I drafted a bit heavier on Buffalo in fantasy this year (Risto, ROR, Lehner). :thumbu:

If you ignore the effect of all the other guys on the ice, sure.

We can assume it's negligible compared to Gorges, not to mention volatile. Gorges has been the one constant in Ristolainen's season.

his impact on Subban during his last 2 seasons in MTL

2012-13
-5.32 CF60
+3.99 CA60

2013-14
-5.18 CF60
+2.25 CA60

This kind of statistical analysis has been debunked on many different threads involving Risto already. PPG is a far better stat to use when talking about production because P/60 doesn't take into account that it becomes more difficult to score the longer you play in a game.

ie. it's far harder for Risto to score in his 25-28th minutes of a game than it is in his 17-20th minutes.

Doughty P/60 5v5 - .64
Risto P/60 5v5 - .72

Guess Doughty is worse or.......wait a minute.....maybe playing 28 minutes a night is negatively affecting his P/60 at 5v5.....no way!

You don't even have to watch the game. Just looking at raw Corsi without QoC, QoT, shot quality or OZS correction:

Rasmus Ristolainen isn't even Sabres best D-man. Just as Red Wings Teemu Pulkkinen is the greatest Selke level player to ever lace them up and carries his line mates possession stats, even Datsyuk's, to new heights when on ice together.
