They technically were up this year. Like Benson, they all were on the last year of their ELC in 25/26 and their new contracts start next season. Canes just got the extensions done in advance. You are probably right though, if they were signing now after the playoffs they both had vs. signing 10-11 months ago, I would imagine the AAV would be higher so it's not completely apples to apples.

That said, this is a very good signing for Buffalo IMO. Not an overpay and the contract should get better with age.

It isn't already a steal. If that was the case, his play this year would've been worthy of ~$9M.
