It's not exactly rational to go with the "McLeod for Skinner" angle, but since he's being talked about here, he's given the team something that it has dearly lacked early on. I never had Skinner pegged as the guy who go to the tough areas, but he's been a hound around the net and creates a bit of chaos down low. The goals will come, but in the meantime, at least it builds offensive momentum for the team.

Technically when you look at it it was Skinner + Savoie for McLeod.
The Skinner signing would happen irrespective of us trading McLeod or not, if we didn't have an interested party for McLeod , I'm guessing Henrique would of been the UFA we likely don't sign given they occupy the same slot on the team.

I think it's useless, his entire career coaches have been trying to teach him this, but he's just too lazy to do it.
I don't think he's lazy. He just doesn't understand that part of the game. I think his backcheck is better than when he tries to play defense during prolonged attacks. It's not the effort, it's the brain.

Skinner was always someone who set up in the soft areas when offensive zone pressure was established. He’s fine once that happens and he becomes the shooting and/or rebound option.

It’s when he tries to go 1 on 5 that you wanna rip your hair out.

I mean maybe. But still it ended up with the Oilers having a Sabres prospect and former player. Obviously it wasn’t a trade of 2 for 1, but it ended up being that way.

Regardless I look forward to the tribute video when the Oil come to Buffalo.

Yeah - I didn't view him as a guy banging away in the paint, so a pleasant surprise there.

He hasn't done much of the Jeff vs. The World stuff. Hopefully he understands the assignment - with 97 and 29, those are the guys who run the offence. His seeming strengths work really well with that. Just need the shots to start going in.

Had no idea we traded McLeod for skinner
We traded McLeod to save cap space so we could add Skinner.

We were also forced to let go of Holloway partly because of J.Skinner.

Anyway, glad McL is turning out for BUF.. I never declared this McLeod for Savoie swap a clear win for Oiler.. people can go check earlier posts.. it's a win win deal once Savoie becomes an NHLer

Well I don't know, he can't figure out how to just go back to defense and cover his zone or guy, I noticed that occasionally he did that, but otherwise he just lazily went back.

I feel like it's silly to take a victory lap that you traded a recent top-10 pick for a guy on pace for like 50 points :dunno:

Like sure, McLeod looks like he has been a really nice player for the Sabres, but they still traded a recent top-10 pick that's doing pretty well in the AHL for him. Even in the context that Skinner has been a dud for the Oilers, I think it's still a no brainer for the Oilers to make that swap because Savoie's upside is likely higher than McLeod and they'll probably get more value out of him (whether it be by trade or with what he does in the NHL) than they would have gotten out of McLeod.
