I was lambasted when this trade was made when I said McLeod was a great 3C and the oilers were dumb to trade him and that Savoie was an overrated prospect who’s value came from his draft position alone. I even had all my posts wiped from the Savoie prospect thread and I banned from the thread all because I shared an unpopular opinion.

Come to find out? Both those statements have been correct up to this point.

Interesting how the view of this trade has changed for a few. Savoie looks good in the A but nowhere near ready for the nhl
I think most Sabres fans knew that he still needed development time in the A. He still has legit top 6 upside.

But holy friggin cow is McLeod EXACTLY what Buffalo needed as their 3C. Hell, he even filled in as our 2C tonight and didn't look out of place at all.

Savoie’s issue is he NEEDS to be a top 6 player, he doesn’t have the stature to be anything else. Yamamoto 2.0

Eh, glad McLeod has played above expectations but this deal is a long, long way from being able to take a victory lap.
Oilers had to open cap room to keep their elite guys. McLeod is an elite guy. He had to go. But of course he’d be better in his role than some of the current Oilers. But that’s what a cap does. It spreads out the guts who are just below the star players.

McLeod is Fine. If the Sabres ever make the playoffs again the fans will hate him. Oilers probably more upset about Holloway.

Savoie has the smarts and effort to make it as a bottom 6 energy guy if that’s where his career takes him.

This trade was was a good trade for both teams. Maybe EDM should have kept McLeod as they’re going for the cup right now, but they dealt from a position of strength, and gained something they didn’t have, a blue chip prospect. Buffalo same thing, dealt from their strength(blue chips prospects) and got what the team felt was the hole in their forward group.

Yep, Edmonton is in a different stage, finding ways to keep their core together and look for places to improve like Henrique instead of him.

I expect at some point if McLeod is slumping or when Savoie graduates and starts lighting it up, this will get bumped again.

I don't know about that... the narrative the last 2 years on Sabres board is that he would of made the team out of camp if he wasn't injured.

If a forward happened to go down for an extended period, he'd do fine on a third line with Henrique and Skinner. This Oilers team has the depth to stretch into the bottom six. He'd probably be a welcomed addition.

For sure no victory lap (other than one over the many, many Oiler fans who called him terrible). Savoie could still turn into a guy. Hopefully he stays healthy.

McLeod has been very, very good. Exactly what the Sabres have needed.
He’s exactly what they needed in this moment, Buffalo is still playing .500 hockey. If everything starts clicking maybe they surprise

Do not mis this guy. Hope he has a good year. Too soft to me. Too many playoff blunders.

Edmonton has only allowed 4 more ES goals than the jets with skinner in net lol. Their ES play is why they have hung on to be 9-7. Specials teams have sucked.

Mcloed wasn't moving any needle for Edmonton

Good for Buffalo if he works out. Ryan is a really nice guy off of the ice too.

Yep. AS I posted at the time. As long as you do not ask too much for him you will like him. Oilers had to free up money and that is one of the reasons he was traded
I don't know. There might be another level to his game. A speedy center with smarts who has some goal scoring ability who is just entering his prime years and finding an expanded role on a new team? It wouldn't be the first time a C hits another level under those circumstances. I'm not putting my house on that idea, but he's certainly looking the part of a gadget player who can move around the LU in a pinch. Perhaps has some top-6 upside?

Time will tell, but it's nice to have a C with playoff experience. You can see he's not fazed by the hiccups throughout a game like a lot of the younger players are. Sort of reminds me of when Buffalo acquired Drury (not that McLeod is on that level).

All that being said, Savoie has immense potential. He could be a Briere-lite player in time. Buffalo just doesn't have the luxury to wait around for all of these prospects to develop, so they had to bite the bullet on this trade. So far, it's working out well, but man oh man can I see Savoie becoming a good top-6 player in a few years.
