Jokiharju is a decent 3rd-pairing defenseman too often asked to play above his capability because he's clearly a better right-handed top-4 option than Clifton, and Adams has failed to find a proper partner for Power. No wonder he was the favorite whipping boy for so many Sabres' fans.

I'd say JBD versus Gilbert is the comparison to be made from today's dealing. I'm keeping an air-sickness bag handy in case I see JBD out there with Power.

Early on I had hopes that he would be a stralman-like defensive defenseman. Once it was clear that he wasn't, I started thinking that once he hit his late 20s/early 30s and got a little meaner with some dad strength he would mature into a solid overall dman.

Unfortunately here he never had the right partner, never had the right deployment, and never had the right coaching to see what he could really be. And I was never willing to wait for the development to fully play out.

Overall, I hope he goes on to do well.
