There were benefits to keeping Lou bit longer. For me I would stick with him for two more years to let him handle the contracts. The best case scenario Lou could go cheap on them.

How long can anyone be mad at ex GM ?

Nobody is really mad at him. Some posters just can't admit Dubas has made some mistakes, so they try to blame Lou.

Both the Bruins and Islanders remind me of Dougie’s Leafs. Only really one line that could absolutely dominant while the other three lines are just solid and reliable plus a great Goalie.

Funny how REAL top players always find a way to perform in playoffs.

The islanders are what a hockey team is supposed to look like.
They need 1 more star but they're really good. Don't know if they beat Boston. They aren't tampa/avs level yet but they can beat most teams in the playoffs.

If Lou gets rid of ladds dead cap they can probably add an impact player at 6M to get a goal scoring sniper next to Barzal once Lee is back next year.

They should be in the market for for a sniping winger in the off-season

You mean you don’t believe Rasmus Sandin would be flying around the ice delivering thunderous hits and laying people out in a series like that?

Islanders really don't have the cap space to do that. Sorokin, Pelech and Beauvillier all need new contracts next year and Cizikas is a UFA. Their cap situation is a mess and that's with Boychuk "retiring" and giving away Toews for peanuts. It'll be interesting to see how Sweet Lou handles it.

Watched the game tonight. We aren't built anywhere close to having the intensity that these teams have as far as toughness goes. Can we go all the way with such a soft core? Can we reinvent what it takes to win a cup?

You're assuming one of these teams will win the cup.

I think Kyles approach to get "tougher and more experience" was the right approach but the wrong people. Jumbo, simply can't play any more, he's legs are slow and brain is slow. Simmonds, while had a good start with us, when he came back looked a lot like the Simmonds in Buffalo the year before, he seemed to be slow to the play and not impactful on a single shift. Bogo played well for us, Spezza played well for us. Engvall and Mikeyve (as much as it hurts me to say this about Mikeyev) were just there, not contributing to the on ice product.

You can change the DNA of this team considerably in the off season, say, Andersen is gone, say Kerfoot is picked up in the expansion draft, Thornton is gone, Simmonds is gone, trade Engvall and Mikeyev for a low pick. that leaves us with the need to find a 3rd line and a 4th line. Maybe you trade Dermott, that leaves us with a need for a 5/6/7 defender. Every good team has a half dozen really good players, like the Leafs, its the complimentary payers that will push you over the top.

I think in the new season, we need to build 3 lines around the 11 mil players, getting paid that sort of cash means you are a line driver, a difference maker, you should be able to make players who play with you better. Give each line around 18 to 20 minutes a game, let the 4th line play 3 or 4 minutes a game and have them as the PK specialist, banger crasher, speed line. Opposing teams can't line match 3 lines if we are built right. Where Tavares is getting older and slower, maybe you cut his minutes a little and give more to the 2 top lines.

This has about $61 mil tied up, 4th line should cost you no more than $2.5 mil. bottom 2 defenders should cost you no more than $1.75 mil. that brings you around $65 mil, gives you 16 mil for 6 roster spots, back up goalie 1 mil, 66 mil, 5 roster spots $15 mil to spend.

They didn’t last year, either. It was all going to crash and Barzal was going to leave... but then it didn’t and he didn’t. Again finding success in the playoffs and realistically could be up 3-1 vs Boston instead of 2-2 tie.

I’d have to think they’re quite happy with where they’re at.

Boychuk is on Robidas island. Andrew Ladd is next unless they can send him to Seattle.

I don’t mind a GM straddling the line and pulling off some fancy footwork with undesirable contracts signed by previous GM.

I mean I am not exactly a fan of what Dubas did for this team this year...but just because we aren't happy with our current GM doesn't make Lou magically better. We all watched him whiff for a couple years throwing draft picks around for a garbage(ironically like Dubas did this year). He probably would have gotten the big 3 cheaper but would have spent the extra cap space on players that contribute absolutely nothing.

Where to start?
Orr/Esposito
Toews/Kane
Sakic/Foresberg
Trottier/Bossy
You get the idea.
Hull/Makita
Stars win you Cups.
Always have.
Always will.
Crosby/Malkin
Etc....

Hmmm.
You sound bitter.
Can’t stop talking about Lou.
He’s better than Wonder Boy.
Way better.
Just WATCH and you must see it.
Actual playoff success counts.
As does failure.

Why do you think he “would have spent on players who don’t contribute” when he’s done such an excellent job rounding out the roster with limited money in NY with players who do contribute?

That doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Missing their best goal scorer. Lee and Walstrom.

I don't know what he actually did as the GM of our team. Crazy I know.

Dubas didn't just make "some" mistakes. He made a fatal mistake - a vision that you could just outscore your opponents on the way to the Stanley cup

The Tavares signing in 2018 and the amount of the contract was a colossal blunder. The team didn't didn't need him at that point in their rebuild. The only time you pull a move like that is if you're trying to draw fans into your arena or you're on the verge of winning the cup and need to get over the hurdle. $11 mil wasted for the next seven years

We all know what happens after that with Nylander, Matthews and Marner so no need to go there

Anyone with half a brain knows that in any sport, the path to a championship revolves around your defense.

Dubas went all-in on offense and got caught
