I agree that we don't have to make a trade right now. I also agree that we do have a couple of spots that could use improvement, 1st or 2nd pair LD and a better 3rd C as well as 1st or 2nd RW. I think most agree with these statements, but, how we go about it is where we seem to disagree. To me, there are very few players that are sacred so most are on the table. I don't fall in love with a certain player but look at the team as a whole. I also don't look at past trades or players.

Lets for a second get past the Lucic in the east coast vs the west coast.
A package around him from Edmonton:
Adam McQuaid- replaces Lucic's toughness and adds a solid mid-bottom pairing dman who can kill penalties
Peter Cehlarik- adds an inexpensive LW with size
Matt Beleskey- Edm could either buyout or give a chance back in the West and see if he could find his game with McDavid
2nd round pick 2018 conditional 1st if the Bruins win the cup

Reasons Edm do it:
They're in cap trouble, both Beleskey and McQuaid are off in the books in 2 years time vs Lucic another 4 years at 6 million
2nd rounder
young cost controlled player who has shown he can play at the NHL level who has size.

Reasons Bos do it:
Free up the extra RHD they currently have
erase the mistake of Matt Beleskey and his salary playing for the P-Bruins
Bring back a modern day icon to the city who adores him and reunites him with the centreman who he's had the most chemistry with and makes the Bruins scary again

Marshy-Bergy-Pasta
Lucic-Krejci-Debrusk
Heinan-Nash/Spooner-Backes
Spooner/Nash-Kuraly-Acciari
Schaller

Chara-Chucky
Krug-Carlo
Gryz-Miller
Postma
Copy and paste on Main Board - the Edmonton fans are good at giving thoughts on deals I've proposed

folks, it was reported here first.... there is absolutely no chance Lucic ever plays for an Eastern Conference team based on his personal preference to be as close to Vancouver as possible.....

I agree I have nightmares that the Bruins bring in Pomminville from Buffalo but when I wake -up I realize that PC is still in Edmonton.

:thumbu::laugh:

Ahh good-ol' PC. Actually though his hockey trades were pretty much dynamite. I get a feeling after seeing how this B's crew of young
players have come along that Donnie Sweeney actually knows what he's doing. His hockey trades so far have been so-so but now that he's most likely switching (mental) gears to building a deep playoff team, possibly a championship team that can sustain for several years that he will blow us and the rest of the league away with an awesome trade or three. The Bruins are starting to have the look of scary team. While watching the last few games I started seeing the ghosts of the old Soviet Russian teams and their elite passing. This team skates like the wind, pass more accurately than most any Boston Bruins team that I've witnessed since I started watching hockey 1969/'70 and they don't rely on just one or two lines. Butch has got them drinking some sweet Kool-Aid and they're enjoying it.
Now all DS needs to do is to figure out who to add and subtract without disturbing the locker room. Simmonds would be a +add IMO, Kane would sooner or later be a distraction, again IMO. Too bad too because I really like both players, Kane is younger but still, the FO would be holding their collective breath is they acquired him.

Things change he was dealing with a family tragedy. If he wants out of Edmonton we could be one of the few appealing places. Benning might not want him and Vancouver only has one team. He probably only gets to go home so much in the season anyways.

But I'm not sure his cap hit fits. Its the same deal Backes has but 2 years longer.

Yes. I too have faith in Sweeney. He hasn't made any rash decisions that resulted in bad trades and he isn't going to blow-up the cap. I feel when the right deal becomes available Donnie will pull the trigger. Right now he's in the driver seat and he likes what he see's going forward:bruins :stanley::bruins and he covets whose behind him:habs in the rear-view mirror.

Thanks...for whatever reason I read CapFriendly wrong.

Carlo and Bjork for Toffoli and pick?

Awful

Bruins should not, in any way, move one of their only two young right-shoot D-men for ANOTHER winger.

I wouldn't do Carlo for Toffoli. Now granted, from a strictly trade value perspective, the value is fair. But in the long term bigger picture, it would be an idiotic move for Boston.

Logic tells me that if we are looking at both a glut of prospects in the system and a team close to competing for a Cup, a trade of prospects for an upgrade at a key spot makes a lot of sense.

And playing well and winning is a great time to make a trade.

I would only trade McQuaid and Spooner as there are skilled guys coming up in the prospect lines, and you don't need $2.85 and $2.75 million sitting there, trade for picks and keep filling the prospect cupboards.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the Ottawa Senators have received a "futures" driven offer for forward Mike Hoffman, but the team in not currently interested in the deal.
Dreger tweeted on Wednesday that offer for the Senators would have been a package of a pick and a prospect, but the team is not currently looking for that type of return.

I just feel like we need another legit scorer on this team and Toff addresses that; plus he is still fairly young.

I'm a big Carlo fan too; but again...do we have others in our system that could eventually become legit top 4 dmen? Possibly.

Could the same be said for our forward group? Sure

But sometimes you have to give to get.....and while we have nice prospects; we don't necessarily have HIGH end talent for our forwards.

Debrusk | Krejci | Toffoli

Is a pretty great 2nd line.

Yes, but how many of them shoot right besides Carlo and McAvoy?

None.

Like it or not, it does matter, especially now as the game has gotten faster and faster. While there is the chance one of the left-shot D prospects is perfectly fine playing on the right side (heck one of them may prefer it), hard to plan around it until you see them do it at the NHL level, which we won't know this season.

Right-shot D past McAvoy and Carlo is a long-term weakness and the Bruins can't afford to deal from it.

If they desire Toffoli and could get him, they are better off dealing from their positions of long-term strength, that being left-shot forwards and left-shot D-men.

I can’t imagine why they would want Beleskey at all. I thought Lucic was having a pretty good year, too. Are the Oilers desperate to get out of that contact? Cehlarik does seem like a good player but his “size” doesn’t mean much I don’t think.

I’d literally cry tears of happiness if Lucic came back this year. Just saying.

“Hmmmmmmmm.” Is right.

That is exactly the kind of return that the Senators should be looking at. In my opinion, as I didn’t think they were a good team last year despite making it to the ECF, they need a rebuild. They lack quality and quantity when it comes to prospects. Their situation is quite the distaer, IMO. For them to not be interested in picks & prospects for Hoffman is baffling.

So spooner would be a good piece because he can contribute now

and maybe they circle back on that offer in about 5-6 weeks when the reality of what/where they are sets in.
how far off is a 2018 1st/peter cehlarik from being a fair deal?

one thing that would give me pause is hoffman's 2-way game is very suspect. and when mark
stone said there are "top guys" who are "cheating lately" and it sets a bad example, i've gotta
think hoffman is one of those guys. but he still has that shot and those hands and those wheels.
