Perhaps bruins keep an eye on Western teams with higher than average GA for a swap in D for O? For example, the hawks could use some D. DeBrincat (yes another bruin Barzal like pass) plays right wing and playing well.

I highly doubt he would be available for anything remotely reasonable. Not a realistic target.

My deal would free up more cap long term and give Tor a better shot at winning now.

Did you forget to log into a leafs fan account or something? The deal does not free up more cap long term for the Bruins (unless you are not signing Nylander to a long term contract?). It does free up cap long term for the Leafs (Chara year to year vs signing a player holding out for a longer term higher dollar contract)

And seriously.... why the HELL are you advocating giving Toronto a better shot as a selling point?

Spooner anyone? Could play wing or center. Savardish power play specialist.

That's an insult to an elite passer in Marc Savard.

Sorry but there are zero similarities to Ryan Spooner's passing ability and Savard's. If Spooner had even 1/10 of Savvy's hockey IQ, he'd be a star.

Is there a reason you can't trade for re-signed players? Right wing that could look good on the 2nd line. Affordable?

Suggesting him just doesn't make sense because of that reason. What are you going to severely overpay for his services? NYI aren't going to give him away. He just re-upped there, so why are they going to turn around a few months later and trade him?

Anything is possible...for the right price it could happen. Overpay was not in my recommendation.

Well the Islanders aren't going to trade him for anything. He is clearly apart of the team going forward. The right price for the Islanders would surely be a gross overpay by Boston.

Like I said....anything is possible. For example, Islanders are weak D prospects bruins one of the richest teams D prospects. If Don is interested in a player, he has the potential to offload some D for teams with a need/weakness.

You *can*, but it almost never happens in the NHL and thus isn't really worth discussing.

Teams re-sign players because they really like them. Those players aren't going anywhere unless another team comes in with a big overpayment.

Sam Bennett would be the ideal 3rd line center and being only 22 could end up turning into a 2nd line center in the long run.

I thought he was on his way to becoming elite on the PP. I really thought he regressed as a PP specialist last year. For his sake, I hope he finds his groove again, because that is his only plus skill right now. I still root for him, but he needs to get back to where he was and then improve quite a bit.

I just don't find him that great of a passer.

His passes are fairly consistent, typically flat and on the tape.

But I just don't see the vision to find those lanes to go into the middle of the ice. He can zip it around the perimeter all day long no problem. But Savard had that top-end vision to find those lanes and soft spots to get guys in shooting positions.

Andres Lee is UFA next year, he would be excellent but will also be looking a a big contract. Lee is a left winger 6'3" and over 220 lbs. Isles could use dee. Just throwing names around, no way the Isles let another name go after Tavares but it would be worth a shot. It does not answer the right wing hole. It sure would be nice to have a net hungry guy like him with size.

You get a number three center with speed, you get some size and muscle with Lucic at 3m which is an ok contract. I love David Backes, part of it is his off ice charity work with dogs but I remember him in st louis and have always liked him. I think he may still be a good player but Cassidy needs to say "this is your roll, go do it for the rest of the year". Heinen is a possible over payment, Donato needs time in the minors, he looks lost right now. He could develop into a smaller, less physical Mantha or he could become Vatrano.

If giving up Heinen or Donato I wold look for a better return but that may cost more cap space.

I still don't see how this makes us better. So we'd give up Heinen or Donato (who could develop into a regular 2nd liner) for a 3rd line center who is quick? Backes and Lucic @ 50% would be a wash in this trade. Only difference is we'd get a new slow whipping post to complain about.
