We will just have to disagree there, but I'm glad you liked the equation :D

I guess the difference is that I would not be surprised if one of the youngsters steps up and legitimately fills that LW spot, whether it's Vatrano, Heinen, Bjork, Cehlarik, etc.

And Debrusk. We have 4-5 guys that could legitimately win top 9 jobs next year. I started watching the Bruins in 2008 and don't remember this much talent that could break into the roster. To me keeping Carlo is a no brainer unless the guy we get back is better than a 41-60 point inconsistent center.

I will just say that banking on a rookie to make your second line LW spot is courting disaster unless you are rebuilding. The argument with Carlo for me is I come down on the side of him being a second pairing defensive D. To me a first or second line LW is worth more, even if not cost controlled for two more years.

Of course the other options is Dealer Donny moving some of the wonder prospects for a top 6 forward and leaving Carlo alone. James Neal comes to mind right away, I'm sure Vegas doesn't want a guy who will be a UFA next year and a couple prospects may get him. One of Heinen, DeBrusk, Zboril,Lauzon and one of Czarnik, Vatrano, Chelarik should get it done.

I disagree. First I don't like labeling Carlo a 2nd pairing dman. Too soon to make that statement. Kid has poise. For all we know he tops out as a solid top pairing shutdown defender who pairs perfectly with a puck moving dman. Unlike others I see some room for offensive improvement. He has a good stick, as he gains confidence his points can increase.

I am intrigued by the Neal option. Short term. Gives the youth another year to grow their games. Then Neal is gone. Perfect scenario in my opinion.

Like to see the Bruins sign Mark Stuart, left shot and be could be brought in for cheap money.

I think I could have dealt with Radulov at 6m. Term is a bit dicey for me. I'm just glad he's on a team I can cheer for him. He and Seguin should have many a endless night in Dallas this season

Same here. I was a big fan when he played in KHL so it sucked big time when he signed for habs.

This was Don Sweeney’s third free agency as general manager of the Boston Bruins and by far his least expensive. While some teams made big splashes during the first day of free agency, the Bruins’ front office was a little less noticeable. Sweeney was able to keep calm, stay patient and stay on plan. But, that does not mean they were completely inactive.

Easily his best free agency period yet.

Calm and patient are generally thought of as positive terms. If one wanted to characterize the period otherwise, one could use terms like "uninvolved", "passive", "disinterested", etc.

Maybe as a board we should remember to stay positive next season. For example, when Ryan Spooner goes into the corner for a loose puck and his opponent brings it out (inevitably), we should say "Ryan was able to keep calm, stay patient and stay on plan to instead get the puck at some future point in time." Let's all try that.

Ryan Spooner does have calm, patient and uninvolved down to a science. Fully expecting them to walk away from his arbitration award and get nothing for him because Dealer Donny was calm and patient.

Bruins need to find a trade partner who is willing to trade a top 6 forward in exchange for some combination of Spooner, McQuaid, Bellesky, picks, or prospects. Trading Carlo or McAvoy right now would just set their defense back. The best option might be to stand pat for now & wait to see what you have in some of these prospects halfway through the year then make a trade. If Lauzon or Zboril impresses in Providence (or Boston), then it won't be too painful to part with a young D. Same thing with their young forward prospects. If they can stay in the playoff hunt early, they could add pieces before the trade deadline.

I believe this has been the logic when having guys like Chris Bourque and others like him in the line up, "stay in the hunt", "let's see what the rookies can do", "can make a deal later", yadda, yadda, yadda. This philosophy has resulted in 1 cup in 45 years. One. Singular. Uno.

You'll forgive me if I don't have much faith in this philosophy.

Rebuilding with kids and drafting works if you get high picks and competent scouts who don't try to show how smart they are by picking players rated much lower than where the Bruins select them and then having to listen to "well we heard team X was really interested in the player and they were right after us so we had to take him". This has really become a trend over the last three drafts especially.
