how is this disgraceful to Brown? I don't understand that. Do those who think that know something I don't about how Brown was informed, or about how Brown has reacted?

I was shocked to hear this, but I do not think it's fair to slam the kings here.

Seems inevitable. This is Quick, Kopitar and Doughty's team now. Brown was a great leader when he was leading. Nothing wrong with letting someone else have that opportunity. I wish Brown's play had made this a moot point, but he's a shell of what he used to be.

How he may have been informed has nothing to do with it. The guy captained this team to TWO STANLEY CUPS and two years later they strip him of his C? THAT'S disgraceful.

Oh, **** off with this crap. Brown has played himself into this position. He has no one to blame but himself. He's lucky he's not being traded.

Played himself into the position of being trade bait, maybe. But played himself out of the top leadership position when he's given everything of himself leadership-wise on and off the ice? Hardly. If the captaincy should be held by the top player on the team, why not just give it each year to the player who has scored the most points the previous season, regardless of leadership ability, character or fit? As one poster and the Mayor pointed out, this may be about Kopitar taking ownership of this team for the next 8 years. We've seen from quotes from Sutter and Lombardi this season that that's what they're looking and have been starting to see from him this past season.

In no way do I question this team's heart. As someone pointed out here, they just didn't have the horses to compete this year and they were playing a system that's very tough on the body. They didn't have the balance and the top players wore themselves out trying to overcompensate for the deficiencies.

Agree completely. This news, if true, makes me livid. Just a terrible decision.

You're right, you definitely know more than the front office.

If anything, this could help the team out. DL specifically said that Brown was gripping his stick too tight, which indicates he was putting too much pressure on himself. Now he can focus on his game and not worry about the C.

Right...they're just opinions. They got this one right. Calling this a disgraceful move is overreaction at its worst. I barely even post 5 times a day now.

I am ok with him losing his C, but the Sharks comparison is off since it probably has more to do with the coaching change than Pavelski taking over........We are still stuck with Sutter.

Maybe Brown will be really angry next season and star lighting fools up again.

If things get worse next season it also helps avoid the situation of needing to healthy scratch the captain.

but he is not leading anymore. When Brown was scoring 20 goals a year and leading the team in hits he was leading. He will still have a voice in the room, but having a guy wearing the letter who is capable of leading on the ice is not the worse thing.

On the fan 960 they talked about how it is more about Kopitar than it is about Brown. When people think of the Kings Brown is at least the 5th player to come to mind. This is not a slight on Brown it's just where we are.

The stripped Jumbo Joe after losing to LA two years ago. Coaching change was not till last offseaosn

I think its a pretty sad situation. Brown has been a fantastic warrior and leader for the team, but unfortunately his play has dropped off. Cant always be a fairytale ending I guess.

Was there a bit of friction between Brown and Sutter? Perhasp this was a condition of Sutter re upping.

This is Pavelski's first season as Captain, no? So that would further my argument that changing Captains did get them to Stanley Cup Playoff finals.

makes sense they would want to talk to people before confirming to the media. Sure sounds like its a done deal though

Not sure who really needs to be talked to other than Brown.
But until we see Rosen say something it's likely not a done deal. He's the official mouth piece for the team.

I only find it sad sentimentally. This is a good move overall. Give new life to the team and maybe even Brown. Instead of him having to looking at everyone's game in case he needs to talk to refs he can just focus on his game.

Also I think this means Brown is still in LA this year. I will be more sad if/when he is shipped out.

sorry i thought you were saying the coaching change is why they stripped Thornton of the C

Rosen is paid by the kings, he does not release anything until they tell him to.

No matter what else, that's all we ever hoped for.

I have no problem with this at this point. We don't know what's happening behind closed doors.

- maybe Brown asked to step down
- maybe the exit interviews reviewed something
- maybe it is putting to much pressure on him
- maybe he is getting bought out
- maybe he asked for a trade

All I know is his play has went into the toilet, DL loves his players like family, and this would not be done to publicaly slap him in the face. Maybe it just is to take the pressure off

By what the mayor just said he found out late last week and wasn't happy about it.
It was on sirusxm and would think he'll link it soon so people can listen

He shouldn't be happy about it, nor should he be happy about his performance over the past three consecutive seasons. He only has himself to blame for his play. That's why I hope this causes a resurgence in him but that is wishful thinking.
