Amadio is ****in garbage. Much rather have Brooks
Damn. You got him. He was subverting the Leafs by keeping the better 14th forward. He needs to be fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Huh? Who?

I simply made a statement of preference. Amadio can barely skate. He sucks

The implication doesn't change anything. If they waived Amadio, the Habs would have picked him up instead, and he's a better player and bigger worry to play against than Brooks.

No idea to your point, TBH. Won't be the first or last time either.

Good luck with finding that.

Do you come to HF to discuss hockey, or are you a wrestling fan keeping up with rivalries?

You're only posting this out of spite and to make your past injuries feel better.

I bet you console your friends like this:

"Oh you lost your Grandmother? How old was she? 90? That's a good life. I don't see the big deal. You really have no right to be upset."
Imagine there was some sort of limit on the number of people allowed over 18 in your family.
And a kid is turning 18 this year. Do you kill the kid or the grandma?

The implications are that Montreal needs our #6/7 C (may be further down the depth chart) in their opening night roster.

I really don't understand the outrage, Brooks was beaten out for a job, he is not a 22 year old prospect with some promise, he is likely very close to a finished product.
People said the same thing about Verhaeghe. Just saying.

It's always a risk when you let smart players walk. We've seen with our own eyes Brooks ending up in the right place at the right time. I wouldn't feel confident betting against Brooks providing 12 goals over 82 games. I would take that bet (against) in a heart beat if it's Amadio though. He's not getting 12 goals (but I would be happy if he proved me wrong of course).

You can't protect everyone and you can't hand out playing time based on contracts. Every team has waiwed players and you can't usually trade these fringe players, because every team has their own young players and they also know that every team has to waive someone, so you can gamble on waiwer wire.

It's part of the business.

Season without Matthews should have started with:

Ritchie-Tavares-Marner
Bunting-Kerfoot-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Kase
Amadio-Brooks-Spezza
Simmonds, Matthews

Season with Matthews and Micheyev

Ritchie-Tavares-Marner
Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Micheyev-Kampf-Kase
Amadio-Brooks-Spezza
Engvall, Simmonds

Kerfoot dealt for picks and cap space. Acquire re-enforcements if needed at deadline.

Leafs signed rare group VI free agent Mike Amadio away from non playoff div rival Ottawa and he apparently beat out Leafs own draft pick Adam Brooks for a roster spot.

Leafs apparently believe a player from the bottom of Ottawa's roster is better than what they had in-house with Brooks.

This is Toronto so the progress of Brooks and Amadio will be followed to see if the Leafs made the correct choice. You know if Brooks is dressed tomorrow the odds of him scoring against the Leafs is pretty good as per Murphy's law. :wg:

It's probably just as logical as some of those people here that come on a fan site telling people "you have no right to be a fan".

Unfortunately, if you run a team based on feelings and not on logic it won't work out well. Brooks to this point is a worse player and the same age.

Why stop there. On a lottery team in the Kings, makes less on his second contract then let go of entirely. Goes to the Sens and can't stick there either.

What's interesting is the Sens actually played excellent second half of the season and didn't consider Amadio relevant to maintaining that. They were the third best team in the division for a significant sample size. Their bad start ruined their chances.

We just choked a series away because we had no depth scoring. Brooks can provide more depth scoring than Amadio and like you said he's in-house. We baked him for this long, give him a good run of games to see if he can build on that 4 goals in 11 games. Amadio does not have the resume.

Someone made a good point though. Brooks would have went on waivers regardless if Amadio was here or not when fully healthy. So I focus on that instead now. I guess Amadio is a consolation prize because he would most likely clear waivers and remain an asset. Brooks is the obvious better player to keep so it's safe to assume he won't clear.

Using a thought experiment to support the logic does not make the logic disappear and replaced with feelings instead.

I'm glad you had this discussion with the other NHL General Managers.

I'm not so sure a fan site should be without feelings or emotion.

I can't find the connection between Brooks and Verhaeghe, that's the issue, if you want to point it out, that'd be good.

Just based on AHL numbers, it looks like there is more of a connection with Amadio and Verhaeghe.

I really don’t understand this tbh. Brooks is by no means going to be a top 6 forward in any likelihood, but he is a serviceable NHL forward. This is the Josh Lievo situation all over again. Ya Lievo has not been anything more than a middle six player after leaving TOR, but he’s been a consistent player in the league. Not sure why we think it’s ok to move a player like that when we have inconsistent talent like engvall on our team as is. Not overly pleased with this TBH

You said: he is likely very close to a finished product.

Verhaeghe is a very relevant counter example as he is someone we dismissed as non-NHLer when we let him go. Then he finally hit his potential.

I don't expect Brooks to be a Verhaeghe but he showed enough traits that he might be serviceable depth option and we didn't actually see his finished product.

The connection is clear no? Also your analysis of Brooks being finished is a "feeling" so it's fine if the counter examples have feelings involved. Feelings backed by logic.

The "feeling" I had was based on traditional trajectories of prospects, Varhaeghe does not have a traditional trajectory, and he put up far better numbers in the AHL than Brooks, they aren't really close, that is why I don't see the connection.

There is more statistical evidence that Amadio is on a trajectory close to Verhaeghe, that is all I am saying.

I don't think Brooks is bad, and I think he can be a serviceable NHL player, I just think when you look at what Amadio brings and what Brooks brings, it is kind of easy to see why Brooks was put on waivers. Someone needed to go on waivers, I think they made the right choice.

I added in "feelings based on logic" at the end as I do think your opinion was backed by actual stats.

Keep in mind I pointed out the risk though. I am fine with Amadio. I am just pointing out that it's also realistic Brooks should have been kept.

Whatever the stats say about Verhaeghe, nobody spent more than 2 seconds thinking about him when he was lost. So we'll have to agree to disagree there is no connection here as far as risk goes.

Edit- If I am taking an actual side, Amadio isn't worth giving up on Brooks yet.

Leivo was waived by Carolina and cleared - nobody wanted him

it would have been nice for us to give Brooks a shot over a player discarded from a bottom end team

Throwing around words like trajectory doesn't make you right.

Brooks had 4 goals in 11 games on a contender.

Amadio is career journeyman can't even stick on lottery teams.

Brooks is the superior choice we're just too deep to keep him period.

This situation becomes simpler when you stop making it Brooks v Amadio.
