...just a tongue in cheek comment given the circumstances. Jeez what the heck did Brooks do to you guys? Since when is it illegal to like Brooks?

It's amazing the amount of hand wringing, over the battle for the 14th-16th spot in our depth charts. Brooks has progressed well, and had a decent career in his path to the NHL. He certainly has some offensive talent, and plays the game well. He's going to be missed in the system, and would have been a team leader on the Marlies this year. That being said, the waiver system is specifically designed to give guys the opportunity to play at the NHL level. He's earned that opportunity, and it's up to him to try and stick in the NHL.

But, the number of people complaining about this, probably also complain about Dubas bringing in small skilled players. Brooks is 5'10" 180lbs, Amadio is 6'2" 205 lbs. Amadio provides boardwork, push back, and grit that Brooks will never be able to. Amadio can also PK.

If our lineup was fully healthy, they both would have been waived, as neither are really as good as our top 12-13 players. Brooks is a good kid, good player, and the Marlies will miss him. He was good depth, and it's unfortunate for us he's gone... but that's the way the system works, and at his age, he hasn't been good enough to establish himself in the lineup. So, he gets his opportunity elsewhere, a team with less depth. Amadio over Brooks is the right move, even if it sucks to see a homegrown guy go.

He was a good player. Stepped up when needed and I think he’s got some actual potential as a bottom 6 piece. Stupid to waive him
I'm unhappy that Brooks is gone, but choosing the one player over another is not "dumb".

Fans have our favorites-- it's perfectly fine and expected. Management should never fall love with the players. It's got to be a more cold-hearted process that does what'd best for the team.

I suppose we can disagree over what's best for the team, but there's not much to choose here.

Again, I hope this doesn't become a For-Dubas Against-Dubas topic. It's not that. Its just a player move.

I thought he was going to go to Ottawa via being claimed on waivers.

Going to a Stanley Cup finalist from last year Montreal was a surprise, while not making it through waivers was not.

So he was basically as productive as a 24 yo forward as a 19 yo or 20 D-man.

Bad decision on Leafs management for letting Brooks go. They should have dealt Kerfoot for picks that they lack and kept Brooks\Kampf for center depth on 3rd and 4th lines. This will become a mistake. I see this becoming a Steve Sullivan moment again.

how many posters included Brooks in the line up for this year? Seems like a nice kid…but he is just a spare part.

A lot.

Clearly Brooks is not your favorite Leaf, but a lot of fans here like him. I happen to follow the Marlies and attend their games. I care. Other people care about the Marlies and the implications of this waiver pick up.

The implication doesn't change anything. If they waived Amadio, the Habs would have picked him up instead, and he's a better player and bigger worry to play against than Brooks.

No idea to your point, TBH. Won't be the first or last time either.

The implications are that Montreal needs our #6/7 C (may be further down the depth chart) in their opening night roster.

I really don't understand the outrage, Brooks was beaten out for a job, he is not a 22 year old prospect with some promise, he is likely very close to a finished product.

Although I am a Colorado fan, (from same neighborhood as Mac) the Leafs will always be a close second. I like Brooks. I thought he show some promise and I liked him better than Robertson.

By Age 24:

Sullivan: NHL 209gms, 20gl/48pt pace --- AHL 161gms, 40gl/95pt pace
Brooks: NHL 20gms, 16gls/33pt pace ---- AHL 197gms, 21gl/44pt pace

I did. I like the kid. Decent enough, homegrown player, surprised and disappointed he's gone.
Not the end of the world by any means, just seems like the wrong decision.

Should have waived Mik. We don't need him, someone would have claimed him and taken 1.6 million off the books. Cap problems would be solved, for this year anyway. We are still over by 100 grand but with Mik on the IR, we now are cap compliant.

I was shocked Mennel didnt get picked up. Kid had a dynamite pre season

Worst expected goals for percentage, Leafs forwards 20-21:

1. Vesey -7.0
2. Foligno -5.6
3. Kerfoot -4.5
4. Boyd -3.7
5. Petan -2.9
6. Brooks -2.7

Foligno and Kerfoot have a bit of an excuse as they actually faced tough competition and zone usage. (Though still they should have done better than that.)

The rest of them though were all given very sheltered strict 4th line usage and still couldn't hack it - no surprise that they're all waiver wire fodder.
