It definitely makes sense that a Canadian team would claim him. Most waiver pickups atm are within the division due to how much teams saw each other last year.

Brooks gave us a bit of decent production last year, but it's worth noting that both his individual shooting (40%) and team on ice shooting (14%, league average is 8%) were absurdly high last season, and he got outshot overall when he was on the ice even with him being glued to Spezza who was great. The reality is that his production was far more random luck than creating any ability to create offense and the Leafs likely felt Amadio was more of a sure bet based on his larger/better track record in both the NHL and AHL plus more solid analytics throughout his career.

Personally i'd probably still prefer Brooks to see if you can maybe get some upside out of him, but Amadio was great in preseason (he had the best CF% of any Leafs player) and maybe the Leafs feel like he's a fit for the system and they can draw more out of him that way than bad teams like LA and Ottawa could

Amadio is virtually the same age as Brooks (literally a week apart in age) and has over 150 more NHL games to his resume and is bigger and can give you a different versatile look lower in the standings. It's not like we lost a unique and irreplaceable piece.

It's a pretty funny play in hindsight, me finding some comedy in it isn't worth making a big deal about. So your reply is in line with the backlash in other threads when somebody dares say they prefer Brooks.

No not universal. Probably 50/50 if not slightly favoring Brooks only because hes the home grown guy and most people don't have any idea what Amadio is aside from the preseason games he played.

They're pretty similar all things considered, a guy who can play on your fourth line and not hurt you, but you probably have issues if you're relying on them to play anywhere above that.

They're both 13th forward types. Coin flip.

Amadio is younger by a couple weeks with 5x the amount of experience, a RH centre (team need), and more proven defensively at the NHL level. Slight edge to Amadio if you’re a playoff team.

Neither guy has much upside left at 25. Likely finished products and waiver fodder again mid season.

I thought Brooks was great on the 4th line. Oh well, as people are saying, he’s not irreplaceable. Amadio and Semyonov were just as good in preseason. Amadio has good instincts like Brooks, he has a bigger frame and was also prolific in junior leagues. Maybe the size will help crashing the crease a bit more.
