I'm assuming this is in team sports, or sports with bracket systems in place? Not most sports I'd think.

I don't recall it specifying team sports over individual sports, or vice versa.

Well, 4th place doesn't get a medal so they weren't asked for their opinion

That said I think competitors who finish dead last might be happier than 4th placed finishers because they probably came into the competition not expecting to come close to medal contention and were just happy to have qualified/made it.

Why would they not be happy? Always better to win than to lose.

Compare how they celebrated when they scored 1-0 in the game against Finland and how they celebrated this 2-2 against US and you will see what i ment.
